We’re excited to introduce you to the always interesting and insightful Deandra Green. We hope you’ll enjoy our conversation with Deandra below.
Hi Deandra, thanks for joining us today. What do you think matters most in terms of achieving success?
To be successful takes diligence. You have to be diligent enough to keep at your goals even when it seems that they may be getting further and further away. Days are going to be tough for sure but it is up to you to keep your eye on the prize. There is a saying that I live by, “Everyday may not be good, but there is something good in every day.” You are going to win some days and some days you are going to lose and that is okay. Find the good in those bad days and move on. You will get there I promise you just have to keep working at it.

Awesome – so before we get into the rest of our questions, can you briefly introduce yourself to our readers.
Hello! My name is Deandra Green and I own Deandra LeCole Photography. I have been doing photography for about 3 years now. I specialize in portrait and branding photography. I believe in capturing images in real moments. Getting your picture taken doesn’t have to be awkward or uncomfortable. It can be fun and exciting and I am here to create that experience. I’m your hype man, your cheerleader. My number rule when shooting with me, be yourself. The thing that I am most proud of is how far I have come. I have learned so much over the past few years.
Any stories or insights that might help us understand how you’ve built such a strong reputation?
I think my diligence to provide great work but not break the bank has allowed me to build a reputation with the local photography market I know so many people that want nice photos taken of their families or their business is just starting out and they don’t necessarily have an enormous budget for photos. A lot of photographers charge a pretty penny for photos and it is certainly an investment. Photography is a hobby of mine not my main source of income. It’s not that I am not confident in my work or think it’s not good but I want to be able to capture memories for people affordably.

Can you tell us about what’s worked well for you in terms of growing your clientele?
The most effective strategy for growing my clientele is word of mouth. I can remember just starting out and recruiting my friends to model for me and of course they would do it with no hesitation. I started posting those pictures and people slowly started to reach out to me for their photography needs. I started passing out business cards at local events, mentioning myself in comments in various local Facebook groups every time someone would be in search of a photographer. Those people started reaching out and my clientele started to increase. Now I have recurring clients and even clients that I may have only done one photo session for refer me to people they know.
