We were lucky to catch up with Micah Worthington recently and have shared our conversation below.
Hi Micah, thanks for joining us today. How did you come up with the idea for your business?
Picture this, a young father getting his young and only daughter ready for bed. Being in the room and focused on the moment I sat her down in the water to bathe. Paying attention to detail I noticed she had small red lesions on the neck, back, and stomach. Puzzled at first on how to solve the problem I back tracked on what exactly could be causing this irritation to her skin. Racing through my mind to bring her to a state of comfort, everything I used on her skin was for sensitive skin. From the laundry detergent, to the lotion. I suffered skin ailments as a child so I prepared knowing this could be a problem. What I didn’t prepare for was the soap she was using. At that moment my life changed. I realized it could be her soap, and so I decided I would start making her soap to have control over what I was putting on her body. This was a worthwhile endeavor because it absolutely changed my life. I’ve learned about herbs for skin, oils for skin, and the benefits that nature has ready for us to absorb. I started growing the herbs in my garden to use in the soaps and lotions and her skin quickly became un irritated, the bumps cleared up. I had solve a problem no one around was solving. I felt it would work turning this effort into a business because there are people out here with the same story as I. A response when someone who couldn’t help themselves needed help. My unique approach was from yard to tub sourcing herbs that help with rashes, inflammation, chronic dry skin. This expands my creativity on so many levels, and that keeps me excited.

Micah, before we move on to more of these sorts of questions, can you take some time to bring our readers up to speed on you and what you do?
If haven’t heard Guaranteed Comfort LLC turns 2 year old this year. Focused on just what the name says comfort. I set myself apart from others because a majority of the herbs you see in the soap I grow. From the lemon balm, to lavender. All soaps are made in small batches and are hand cut. I test them before they are packaged to sell.
Learning and unlearning are both critical parts of growth – can you share a story of a time when you had to unlearn a lesson?
A big lesson I learned on this journey is you cannot do it alone. Having positive and willing people around you keeps you stable and grounded when difficulties may rise. I felt when I started this was “my thing” and that quickly changed as time set in. Its the people around you that make you who you are and who you will be.

Any fun sales or marketing stories?
No risk no reward. I only had fifty dollars to my name and needed to travel to a festival in Tennessee which was probably 2 hours away. So I used the last money I had in hopes there would be a good turnout at the event. I was nervous at the time because I didn’t have my rent paid. Everything was really tight moneywise, but not to tight for me to lose. I made that festival, I made my rent that month, and I made enough for gas back. I went home with a sense of gratitude that I will never forget.
