We’re excited to introduce you to the always interesting and insightful Liz Rogers. We hope you’ll enjoy our conversation with Liz below.
Liz, thanks for joining us, excited to have you contributing your stories and insights. Let’s kick things off with your mission – what is it and what’s the story behind why it’s your mission?
The story of Five & Two Marketing is truly one of my favorites and I love when others ask me. Five & Two references the biblical account of Jesus’ miracle with the five loaves and the two fish. Many years ago, I heard a message that spoke to me so clearly about believing that what you have is enough – no matter how meager or small your resources, when you have faith and offer it as service to others, it becomes magnified and miraculous. One of the best parts of the Gospel account is that when the thousands of people were finished eating, there was actually an abundance of leftovers – enough to fill many baskets. When you have faith, what you have is not only enough, but yields abundance! I love this perspective on business and entrepreneurship: that when we believe in our idea and commitment to making it a reality, it can become so much bigger than we ever imagined. I encourage you to believe in your business and experience the abundance of having faith!

Liz, love having you share your insights with us. Before we ask you more questions, maybe you can take a moment to introduce yourself to our readers who might have missed our earlier conversations?
Five & Two Marketing is a full-service marketing firm, with more than 22 years of experience in design and communications.
Our philosophy is simple: we are storytellers. We take each company’s story and make it easy for others to understand, through branding and positioning. This includes developing identities, creating websites, curating social media, and developing impactful events.
Five & Two Marketing owner Liz Rogers has over 22 years of experience in corporate, private, and public sector communications. She is a graduate of Texas A&M University with degrees in Agriculture Education and Animal Science – Marketing. She is also a graduate of the Certified Public Communicator Program at the Texas Christian University – Schieffer School of Journalism and the FEMA Emergency Management Institute Integrated Emergency Management Course.
Her past communications roles include serving as the Sullivan Brothers Family of Companies Marketing Director, where she directed and executed marketing strategies for eight separate operating companies including a multi-modal shipping facility, a world-class dredging company, disaster response providers, and home building/community developer. She managed public relations and communications surrounding Federal contracts for the US border wall projects from San Diego to Rio Grande Valley and COVID-19 emergency hospitals in both New York and Florida. Liz also served as the City of Galveston’s Public Information Officer and has contracted communications experience for Galveston Independent School District and the Galveston Economic Development Partnership.
Our strategy is to take your input, both written and verbal, and create options that communicate your key messages and tell your company’s story. We like to meet with key personnel to ask questions and solicit feedback on ideas and approaches. We create rough ideas and present to you options that you can add to and subtract from, to help us deliver a brand that is strategically on target. We work within your budgets to maximize the impact we can bring, with dynamic visual elements that convey real information that is clear and explanatory.
We’d love to hear a story of resilience from your journey.
In our industry – marketing, public relations, and communications – we often manage intense events and scenarios. One of the most important lessons I’ve learned is to “never let them see you run!”
When we say that – “never let them see you run” – we refer to how we manage times when things don’t go as planned. If you “run”- or panic – everyone panics! As the leader of a team at Five & Two, I teach my creatives and project managers to stay calm and be solutions-minded when things go sideways.
Several years ago, we drove across the state to capture a ship launch with our photographer and team. We were given a specific time for the launch and arrived early. When one of the crewmen picked us up, burdened down with equipment, cameras and gear, he exclaimed “I don’t know why you have so much stuff, the ship already launched!”
I’m not kidding.
The entire team looked at me for a reaction. We took a collective deep breath, checked with our contact, and discovered that the ship launched early due to shipyard time constraints and that the actual launch itself was very anticlimactic. We unloaded and took as much footage as possible of the ship (calmly sitting in the water – ha!) and walked away with a successful weekend full of stunning visuals.

How did you build your audience on social media?
We built our audience on social by applying a simple principle: tell the story of Five & Two. Our story includes so many passionate business owners and organizations, along with the beautiful digital and print collateral we develop for them. When we share their stories, we share our own by default. Being a partner with our clients means that we all succeed when we support one another.
Logistically, we also invested in quality, regular brand photography. We partnered with Callie Walker photography to shoot quarterly team photos so that our social is fresh and relevant.
