Caryn, looking forward to hearing all of your stories today. Let’s start with the story of your mission. What should we know?

Mission and purpose are driven by passion, we believe, a passion that ignites the soul and provides a supreme source of energy. We are so glad you asked us to share the story behind our mission.

Our Mission is to help people notice and savor the gift of being together, the gift of being loved by one another. It can be for couples, families or friends but we empower people through portraits that remind them everyday of how valuable and beautiful they are.

The Story behind our Mission:

Hi, this is Shawn, and my family did not do vacations or set aside time to savor being together unless you counted the visits to my grandmother’s at Christmas. We also never experienced a family portrait, let alone a photoshoot on a beautiful beach or at a park. My siblings and I have searched for family photos, but sadly none exist. This has left an indelible impression on my value system as an adult.

Hi, Caryn here, and I had the opposite upbringing that Shawn did. My parents took our family on vacation every year, and set aside significant time to enjoy all of us kids together. I have these times together as fond memories that I can replay like a movie in my mind today. And my parents invested in professional photoshoots yearly for our family; we had multiple family portraits framed and displayed proudly by mom and dad on walls around our home.

With these experiences, Shawn and I found ourselves purposed to start our photography service San Diego Vacation Photography. We provide exhilarating photoshoot experiences that help families and couples gain stunning portraits and keep a legacy of the value of being together.

Awesome – so before we get into the rest of our questions, can you briefly introduce yourself to our readers.

We are Caryn and Shawn, local professional, award winning portrait photographers. We got into the this industry to create gorgeous, high quality portrait products for people at a time when they are relaxed and enjoying one another against the luxurious landscape of San Diego and the Pacific Ocean.

We are a full service provider, beginning with a pre-shoot consultation, to an exuberant, on-location photoshoot, to an in-person ordering appointment with a full menu.

Our product line up is world class, and includes framed prints by local and international masters, canvas art pieces and triptychs, acrylics and metals. We also provide premium archival quality albums, enlarged prints, luxurious folio boxes and matted prints.

What sets us apart from others is the personal, collaborative experience we provide that lets them know they’re in the right place, and the impact of our style of photography which clients describe as exquisite, bursting with life and light.

We are most proud of the high quality standards that attract our discerning clients. We want potential clients to know that we take exceptional care to ensure we are the right photographer for you, and that your expectations are understood and met or exceeded.

Are there any books, videos or other content that you feel have meaningfully impacted your thinking?

Yes, absolutely. It begins with watching Creative Live and discovering Sue Bryce. Her education platform with videos, transcript downloads and more shaped our entrepreneurial outlook and gave us value that changed our product offering, prices and service quality. A book we highly recommend to other creatives and small business owners is Michael Port’s “Book Yourself Solid”; it is about defining the client with whom you most want to work and who inspires you to do great work.

Social Media content management and production continues to be a growth point for us, however Jasmine Star is helping us get to where we want to be organically and for the long game of marketing on SM.

Is there a particular goal or mission driving your creative journey?

For Caryn and Me, one big thing that drives our creative journey is our dedication to work for ourselves; we are true entrepreneurs from the heart, and like many successful ones, we are late bloomers.

We feel in our hearts that we were put here to love others in a tangible way that cannot be accomplished except by our creative services and working for ourselves. So we get up every morning grateful and energetic for the life we have been given and the good works to which we dedicate ourselves.
