We recently connected with Shay Sandifer and have shared our conversation below.
Alright, Shay thanks for taking the time to share your stories and insights with us today. So, naming is such a challenge. How did you come up with the name of your brand?
Elevation Beauty has so many meanings for me personally, professionally and spiritually. Elevating someone’s self esteem, confidence and self love through their hair style is my passion behind the chair. A hair transformation start to finish is what I love and what makes my heart so full.
Elevation, in my love for conquering mountains through Hikes, Climbing and mountain biking is my hobby, when I’m not in my salon that is where you will find me.
Elevation, through mind body and soul is what keeps me growing spiritually. It’s so important for me to find balance as I am constantly working toward accomplishments and succeeding in everything that I do. I practice a lot of mediation, I read books that stimulate my mind and soul and healing, so I’m as complete as possible to continue doing everything I love to do and not get burned out.
Awesome – so before we get into the rest of our questions, can you briefly introduce yourself to our readers.
I’m a 17 year plus master hairstylist, serial entrepreneur in Arizona. I continue evolving in my businesses, learning and growing. I created an all natural hair repair mask that has completely revolutionized the hair care industry and I love sharing all the amazing success stories of clients who have had remarkable hair repair, growth and over all hair health from using my product. I’m in the process of expanding my line to offer more incredible all natural products for an even greater impact in hair health.
How about pivoting – can you share the story of a time you’ve had to pivot?
As we all know the year 2020 was a time of pivoting for everyone, personally and in business. My business was shut down for weeks and In that time I was so unsure as to what to do for my clients to keep them taken care of with their hair needs. It took me about 2 minutes to come up with the idea to put together color kits and hair mask kits for my clients to have at home hair care for the time being since I personally wouldn’t be able to do it myself for them. I front porch delivered the kits and scheduled FaceTime and zoom calls to walk everyone through the service, so they still had some time with me virtually since in person wasn’t an option. I continued this even after lockdown ended with some clients that didn’t feel comfortable coming into the salon. My clients were incredibly grateful for this option as was I.
What’s worked well for you in terms of a source for new clients?
For me the best source of new clients has always been referrals. My clients are my greatest billboards and advocates. They share my work on social media, mom groups, church groups and with their friends and family. I’m so beyond blessed and grateful with the most amazing clients ever.
