We’re excited to introduce you to the always interesting and insightful Angela Knox. We hope you’ll enjoy our conversation with Angela below.
Hi Angela, thanks for joining us today. Talk to us about building your team? What was it like? What were some of the key challenges and what was your process like?
My business has always been me. I’ve worn all the hats from doing the things I know and love, like photography and marketing, to the things that aren’t my favorite and take long amounts of time to execute like accounting and blogging.
I still don’t have employees, but as my business grew from offering photography to an agency that offers brand building, graphic design, social media management, and content creation, I needed team members.
Because I know people in these spaces and collaborate with them on projects, I was able to find dedicated contractors to help on a per-project basis and hourly basis.
My per-project contractors didn’t require interviews or training since I was leaning on them to create what was needed. That made me the project manager, so I had to learn how to create a flow for my clients that felt seamless and connected.
I did recently take maternity leave, and finding someone to fill in for me was more intensive. I worked with a great local agency that executed the job description, sifted through applications, and did the first round of interviews. I stepped in at the end to interview the final candidates. This was probably the best money I’ve ever spent, and I will do this same process again once I need more contractors.

Awesome – so before we get into the rest of our questions, can you briefly introduce yourself to our readers.
The Divine Group is a content creation agency that helps purpose-driven make the impact they deserve. We bring together visuals and messaging so their brand has a clear and cohesive meaning that resonates with their audience.
We build brands from the ground up with messaging, logos, photography, videography, website design, and social media management.
Because we work with purpose-driven brands, we embrace collaboration, communication, and serving others. We focus on sharing a brand’s personality and values so it creates a real connection with its audience.
I founded the group after seeing a disconnect in how businesses present themselves online.
As a brand photographer, I was creating images to enhance business websites and social media accounts. But noticed that many of my clients didn’t have a plan for how to use the photos, so they collected digital dust on their hard drives. This was understandable. Most of my clients just had too much on their plates.
They needed someone to help with the strategy, messaging, and implementation of their digital assets. Hence The Divine Group was born.
Have you ever had to pivot?
The Divine Group was born because of a pivot during the pandemic. The idea was percolating in the back of my brain thanks to my business coach. But once I lost my wedding and event work for the season, I had time to focus in on creating more than just photography.

We’d love to hear the story of how you built up your social media audience?
Being real and genuine has been essential in building my social following. Although The Divine Group is more than just me, I focus the social account on my own stories. I think a lot of people out there want to know WHO is behind the screen and what REAL life is. Not just the Instagrammable moments. Sharing my struggles but also my wins and travels has helped me reach more like-minded humans.
I also share a lot of value on my account – aka things that help solve my ideal client’s problems. People will send us messages that say “THANK YOU” or ask us questions which build relationships.
The final thought here is to engage with people you want to know. Don’t just lurk behind the screen. Get to know the people that are out there so you can get on their radar and find new friends/potential clients/mentors/etc.
