We’re excited to introduce you to the always interesting and insightful Nadia Decius. We hope you’ll enjoy our conversation with Nadia below.
Nadia , thanks for joining us, excited to have you contributing your stories and insights. Alright, so you had your idea and then what happened? Can you walk us through the story of how you went from just an idea to executing on the idea
An idea will always remain what it is, an idea. I pack it along with the many visions we encounter in this lifetime. I have always told myself what’s an idea if can’t be acted upon. You thought of the idea yourself which was the hard part now its time to execute. See an idea comes from who you are as a person. The challenges, impacts and many other things you have crossed paths with that helped with molding who you are now. This experience is also what gives birth to any idea you come across. So execution was a mere thought of mine. Never seen baking as a career of mine nor did I see business owner. But I knew through the many experiences I encountered, the hurt, good, bad and ugly. I became a very confident person which led to my creativity, my strong will and determination. This is what birthed Sweet Delight Cheesecakes “A Precious Treat in every Bite”. From pulling a cooler filled with cheesecake jars, selling at every event from Tallahassee to Miami to now a storefront. The concept of this bakery is unmatched, its like no other. This alone gave me the drive needed for execution. I took baby steps, from building my brand to selecting colors and spending many hours building everything on the back end such as the website, more products, apps, reward programs and even getting a 3d rendering done. In my mind it wasn’t possible. I put in the work by planting the necessary seeds and watered them daily. Each fruit picked opened a door to bring this company to the next level. It has been three years since Ive been working on this brand full-time and I’m proud to see I’m nowhere near where I started. Every seminar attended, book I read, class I took added to this success.
Great, appreciate you sharing that with us. Before we ask you to share more of your insights, can you take a moment to introduce yourself and how you got to where you are today to our readers
I turned my passionate hobby of baking into a way of spreading joy to as many people as possible. My desire for Sweet Delight, is that people all over the world can eventually have access to a little more sweet happiness in the form of savory cheesecakes. There is a truly special feeling that comes from treating yourself to this decadent dessert. That feeling is exactly why I continue creating new styles and delicious flavors for all to taste. Seeing the excitement on my customers’ faces and knowing that I helped give them a joyful experience is why I do what I do.
Stepping through the doors of the bakery is meant to feel like arriving home. You are part of our family forever. All are welcome to be served delight, with a precious treat in every bite.
My inspiration for Sweet Delight came from my dear friend, Precious. Losing her gave me the will and drive needed to make this happen. It is through this company her name will live forever and also be an assistance to educating and assisting women and girls on our health.
We’d love to hear the story of how you turned a side-hustle into a something much bigger.
It started with just selling cheesecake jars out of a cooler. From pool parties to famu and fsu campus. Living in Tallahassee but being from Miami a lot of trips were made back and forth. But with every trip included stops in major cities such as Tampa, Orlando and Jacksonville. This allowed me to spread the word about the goodness in the jar I was toting around. It started as something to do on the side but life experiences led to it becoming something great. This something only became great because of the strong support I had behind me. With them nothing was impossible. We went from the cooler to a custom tent and then a storefront.
How did you put together the initial capital you needed to start your business?
The capital actually came from sales. This was at the beginning of the pandemic. Our sales tripled because of our convience to everyone. We had an app, website and was available on every food platform delivery partner. This is what took us out of a commercial kitchen and into our own space. The sales were non stop and hard to keep up with.
