We recently connected with Sarah Zeren and have shared our conversation below.
Sarah, looking forward to hearing all of your stories today. Was there a moment in your career that meaningfully altered your trajectory? If so, we’d love to hear the backstory.
A defining moment for me in my career occurred when I finally came to terms with the idea that I didn’t have to fit into any one box in order help people heal, and better understands their blind spots so they can grow and thrive. With a background in clinical therapy and coaching, I struggled to define how I could loop my spiritual knowledge and practices into my work without making it all sound too convoluted. Was I a coach? A therapist? A Spiritual guide who has a wide breadth of knowledge and practices that can help assist those at a deeper level? The day I realized I could be ALL these things, bring all my tools to the work I do with clients, was a very freeing experience. I witnessed myself push through simular limiting beliefs I help clients with. I had been working with an old, outdated operating system or way of viewing the world and what is possible. I went from feeling confused, to expansive and excited having given myself the permission to be exactly who I am – and knowing that is enough: a transformative experience I love supporting clients in having as well.

Sarah, before we move on to more of these sorts of questions, can you take some time to bring our readers up to speed on you and what you do?
I offer intuitive spiritual guidance, teaching and coaching. I began my business with a focus on talk therapy and coaching, and it has morphed over the years to focus on deep healing work, and spiritual teaching and guidance. I found more and more people coming to me ready to really look deeply at not only their own patterns based on how they were raised, but also had questions about purpose, faith, and essentially “what’s it all mean?”.
Clients work 1:1 with me and session focus, and modality used vary based on client need but are typically a mix of coaching, teaching and guidance. This allows clients to self-direct the session focus, make their own “aha moments”, and sources answers for themselves while also benefiting from the trained ear (and skill set) of a therapist and a women who has unpacked a LOT.
This is really what sets me apart from other practitioners is I teach, coach and guide people through deep healing work I have done myself. No two people have the same experiences, however with a past riddled with trauma that followed me into my adult years, I’ve done the work: faced my shadow (this is continual work), had more ego deaths than I can count, re-assessed my priorities, cleaned up my personal boundaries, and communication. As a recovering empath, I’ve gain tools on how to manage my energy (and protect it when needed), learned to deeply honor my needs, released guilt and people-pleasing shame, and aligned with a more healed version of myself that has resulted in a deeper sense of peace, true self-acceptance, and joy.
Many people who find me aren’t always 100% sure what they want to work on, they just know they aren’t happy. They are stuck, lost, don’t feel truly seen in primary relationships, feel they have difficulty expressing their thoughts or emotions, and maybe aren’t connected to “what I really want”.
I am creating 3 online courses so people can work at their own pace on topics like: boundaries, mindfulness, inner child healing, spiritual concepts as they related to healing, manifestation, how to tap into your intuition, and much more. These courses are intentionally priced to be very accessible, and have optional 1:1 and group coaching offerings.
I have a boundaries workbook I’m happy to email to people who are curious about my approach, tone and offerings, just ask me via email :)
Finally I have a lecture and workshop series I teach for groups on the above topics both live and virtually. As a seasoned lecturer and group facilitator I love group interaction, teaching and learning from one another!
What’s a lesson you had to unlearn and what’s the backstory?
The powerful difference between “being” and “doing”, and that constantly being busy working on my business, pushing to the next task as soon as I completed the previous was not a sustainable or enjoyable pursuit.
I had to unlearn this tendency that was instilled in me in my youth by caregivers, my academic institutions, and then colleagues and peers. I began replacing pushing, doing and controlling with allowing, resting, and surrendering and my life on the whole has become incredibly more enjoyable.
Putting training and knowledge aside, what else do you think really matters in terms of succeeding in your field?
Having done your own healing. Not every practitioner is going to be able to fully relate to their clients, especially keeping mind no two people are the same. Healing work is a journey with tremendous highs and lows and results in decrease in judgement of self and others. Being able to access this compassion and understanding is a powerful companion to enhance our education, training, knowledge and experience.
