We’re excited to introduce you to the always interesting and insightful Elisabeth Davis-Jones . We hope you’ll enjoy our conversation with Elisabeth below.
Alright, Elisabeth thanks for taking the time to share your stories and insights with us today. What’s been the most meaningful project you’ve worked on?
The most meaningful project I’ve worked on, is Elisabeth Davis-Jones & The CAMP’S new single “Everything Is Gonna Be Alright.” The inception of the song was birth from pain due to watching and experiencing the effects of Covid-19. In March of 2020 my brother Michael Davis passed away and this would be the start of what seemed to be a never ending cycle of deaths. Everyday I would receive word that someone dear to me had passed away from Covid. Watching the local and national news or scrolling through social media platforms and seeing so many people dying began to take it’s toll on me emotionally, mentally, and physically. We were isolated from everything and everyone to remain safe and alive from this horrible and deathly virus. Honestly, I began to feel hopeless. But one day I sat down at the piano and I literally heard God’s voice say, “Trust me, everything is going to be alright.” And at that moment I felt a peace so strong come over me. I fell to my knees and began to thank God for reassuring me that I would be ok. I began to write and write until I began to sweat as if I was working out. With every lyric I began to feel better and better. At the end of this lyric workout, a new song was birthed.
Elisabeth, love having you share your insights with us. Before we ask you more questions, maybe you can take a moment to introduce yourself to our readers who might have missed our earlier conversations?
I am originally from Mobile, Alabama. I’m the youngest of 18 children. I’ve been singing since I was 2 years old. I began playing the piano at age 7. I could hear the music in my head and I would sit at the piano and play what I was hearing. When I was a little girl, I would sing and people would say the little girl with the big voice. I remember singing with my family’s group at a gospel concert. After the concert a lady came up to me and said that God healed her broken heart through my voice. My mother would tell me often that God would use my gift of singing to heal people. I don’t take for granted the gifts God has given me. I believe in my heart the thing that sets me apart is that I don’t use my gift to become famous or popular. I truly want to see people healed, set free, and living an abundant life. The songs God has given me speak to real and relevant life issues. My message is simple. I want people to know that God loves them. When we can’t trust people or things, we can trust trust God.
For you, what’s the most rewarding aspect of being a creative?
One of the most rewarding aspects of being an Indie Gospel Artist is knowing that my gift inspire people to truly see themselves as God sees them. God said we are beautifully and wonderfully made. But we are constantly looking for ways to change the Master Piece we really are. Everyone has a gift. But it’s up to us to cultivate that gift and nourish it with positive experiences. Singing is the vehicle that gives me hope to know that I’m making a positive impact on the world. I want my legacy in music to be known as the artist who helped change the world for the good.
In your view, what can society to do to best support artists, creatives and a thriving creative ecosystem?
In my view the best thing society can do to best support indie gospel artists is sharing and purchasing their music. We don’t have a record label sponsoring or marketing us. Any sharing of post, videos, flyers, and websites help us get the word out about who we are and the great music we write and produce. There are so many gifted indie gospel artists out there who are phenomenal but don’t have the resources (money) to get their music tracked so it can be heard on local, internet, or satellite radio. We solely depend on our supporters and fans to help carry us on this journey of being an artist.
