Alright – so today we’ve got the honor of introducing you to Brianna Knight. We think you’ll enjoy our conversation, we’ve shared it below.
Brianna, looking forward to hearing all of your stories today. Can you tell us about an important lesson you learned while working at a prior job?
One of the key lessons that I learned while working for a corporation was that being resourceful was key in being successful. It’s not always about what you’re given but what you do with what’s given. As a contact representative for the Department of Treasury, it is understood that you must provide administrative and technical assistance to individuals and businesses within a specific timeframe. Typically, calls are to be handled within five to seven minutes. In order to finish calls within that amount of time, you have to identify the taxpayers issues and take the necessary steps to escalate and/or resolve them.
Researching manuals and guidelines were key in determining the action plan. However, keeping a taxpayer on hold for an excessive amount of time while researching was frowned upon. What I chose to do was create flowcharts of FAQ’s and references and use them to speed up the flow of the call. I would also take note of trends and determine the best way to handle potential calls in the event that I came across any of them. Being resourceful and creative lessened the chances of an irate caller due to longer hold times and failed attempts of locating the proper resolution.

Great, appreciate you sharing that with us. Before we ask you to share more of your insights, can you take a moment to introduce yourself and how you got to where you are today to our readers
I am the CEO and Founder of III. VI. Artistry, a beauty brand that prioritizes optimal skin health and provides luxury makeup applications. As a makeup artist, I have worked with hundreds of clients over the years that were not properly educated on how to take care of their skin. That alone led to premature aging, clogged pores, hyperpigmentation and countless other skin issues. I decided to take my career to the next level by offering products that would promote healthier skin so that my clients did not feel chained to foundations and concealers to mask their problem skin.
On 11/11/2021, III. VI. Artistry’s skincare line debuted. Since then, I have continued on my quest to empower women and men through products that are clinically proven to enhance their skin. III. VI. skincare is vegan, spa quality, as well as affordable. It is plant based and nutrient dense, therefore capable of healing skin conditions beyond the conventional stratifications. Typically, skin care companies only target skin types such as oily, dry or combination. However, III. VI. skincare also lightens hyperpigmentation, retains firmness and elasticity, restores an even tone, reduces fine lines, dark circles and wrinkles while protecting the skin against free radical aggressors and premature aging.
My product line addresses issues that most dermatologists or aestheticians would treat, has a shelf life of one year and does not have to remain at a specific temperature to maintain its integrity. Depending upon daily usage, products can last for up to two months before having to be replaced. Most of the products solve more than one condition, so you do not have to purchase multiple products to find a solution.
Working as an artist during events such as New York Fashion Week and having worked with celebrity clientele in tv/film, I have surpassed the typical “DREAM” of an artist. Now, I am making a change in the lives of each client that I work with through my skincare, makeup applications and tutorials. The bigger picture is for clients to leave with healthier skin, and enhanced look and a wealth of information that they can apply to their everyday life!

Learning and unlearning are both critical parts of growth – can you share a story of a time when you had to unlearn a lesson?
I had to unlearn the idea that if I wanted clients, I had to have the cheapest prices around! In the very beginning of my makeup career, I felt that being competitive meant doing what others were doing but at a lesser rate so that I would receive countless jobs! That was the furthest from the truth! Not only did it seem desperate, but it harmed the value of my artistry in the eyes of clientele. It was not until I experienced burn out from being overworked and underpaid that I changed my methods.
I became more intentional about the services that I offered as well as the price points. I knew that if people wanted quality, they would pay for it. I began honing my skills and allowing that to be reflected in my pricing. I no longer negotiated my prices and respectfully declined clients who requested discounts. I began offering products, tools, tips and tutorials and now I am in a space where I am being paid my worth with gratuity!

Has your business ever had a near-death moment? Would you mind sharing the story?
COVID-19 impacted my business negatively and positively. I opened my makeup studio in March of 2020 and had to close it due to the pandemic. Once Gov. Kemp allowed barbers, makeup artists and hairstylists to open their businesses again, I was pleased but still concerned. My weddings that were planned months in advance were now down sizing and rescheduling, my appointments were being canceled because of clients contracting Covid and I still had to pay overhead for my business! In these moments, I had to pivot. I began marketing my product lines which included lashes, beauty tools and skincare as well as loungewear. I was determined to get through that life changing period and I did so by establishing another business, Haus of III. VI.
Many asked, why I created another business during a pandemic, but in times of uncertainty, you only have two options. You either choose to falloff or apply pressure. It was at that moment that I decided that I was going to build Covid-proof, inflation-proof, depression-proof businesses.
