We were lucky to catch up with The Herbal Cup & Bakehouse recently and have shared our conversation below.
Alright, The Herbal Cup & Bakehouse thanks for taking the time to share your stories and insights with us today. What’s the backstory behind how you came up with the idea for your business?
In our personal lives, we strive to nurture our bodies with the best quality foods and drinks that we can find, yet at the same time searching for delicious variety. We noticed a need for more high quality, nutritious options in our community and decided to venture out to find a way to fill the void, while also putting our own unique spin on the typical baked good or elixir.
As always, we appreciate you sharing your insights and we’ve got a few more questions for you, but before we get to all of that can you take a minute to introduce yourself and give our readers some of your back background and context?
“Paleo with a purpose” is what we strive for at The Herbal Cup & Bakehouse. To us this means using paleo ingredients, and incorporating purposeful herbs as much as possible. Our desire is to bring the most nutritious yet delicious foods, teas, and elixirs to the community that way can. Everything we produce is made with 100% gluten-free ingredients. Everything is also made without refined sugar or dairy. All of our teas use organic ingredients and local ingredients, when we can get them. We also put a lot of effort into finding earth-friendly packaging materials: reusable, compostable, and bio-degradable. Coming up with interesting and unique varieties is what we truly love and are fastly becoming known for. On the baked goods side, our spirulina cookies and ashwaghanda donuts are quite popular!
Do you have multiple revenue streams – if so, can you talk to us about those streams and how your developed them?
Yes, from day one we have focused on two different channels – elixirs and baked goods. In the beginning, this was simply out of a desire to bring both (somewhat related) types of products to market. Along the way, we learned how well they complement each other and (possibly more importantly) support each other through the revenue volatility that can come from either one on their own.
We’d love to hear about you met your business partner.
We met in the dry goods aisle of a local grocery store, after a yoga class that we happened to (unknowingly) take together. The universe brought us together again at a local festival in East Nashville, so it seems fitting that our personal relationship has evolved to now include a business where we share our time with each other as vendors supporting our community markets and events!
