Alright – so today we’ve got the honor of introducing you to Brandi Norton. We think you’ll enjoy our conversation, we’ve shared it below.
Hi Brandi, thanks for joining us today. Before we get into specifics, let’s talk about success more generally. What do you think it takes to be successful?
I was once told “you have to become comfortable with being uncomfortable if you want change”. That concept is an essential part of my daily operations and is crucial to my personal and professional success. Being a self-employed business owner has taught me an array of lessons, but, those lessons have equipped me with the key to success and that is mental toughness; mental toughness is unwavering shelter.
Great, appreciate you sharing that with us. Before we ask you to share more of your insights, can you take a moment to introduce yourself and how you got to where you are today to our readers
Absolutely! My name is Brandi Norton. I am a licensed health insurance agent and the owner of “PlanWithBran”. Honestly, I never imagined working in healthcare sales. I spent a large majority of my professional career in the legal field with intentions of moving into court operations at the director level. However, life happens and now I can’t imagine doing anything else.
On a daily basis I speak with individuals, families, small businesses and anyone in-between that need advice on their healthcare options and do not want to navigate such an important decision on their own. Many people actively choose plans they do not understand and end up in bad situations because their coverage was found to be insufficient for their needs. I agree that healthcare should be affordable, but price, and the value of your coverage are two entirely different topics. As an advisor I help you connect the two. I take pride in teaching my clients how to understand their insurance options, ensure their doctors are in network and find them resources for prescriptions and medically necessary services so they can get the help they need.
I also take pride in being a trusted resource. I know first-hand what it feels like to have a family member who is incredibly sick and cannot risk changing their physicians or going without their medications. There’s no choice for me – I have to help.
Can you tell us about what’s worked well for you in terms of growing your clientele?
The most effective strategy for growing my clientele is maintaining my standard of legitimacy through experience and professionalism. “I don’t know” is only an acceptable answer once. After that, it should be your mission to becoming knowledgeable in the area that you were previously uncertain with. Your client’s trust creates new business for you and turns into referrals. Those referrals are the lifeline of your business.
Do you have any insights you can share related to maintaining high team morale?
To manage a team effectively you need to understand how to maintain and increase operational results. Depending on the field you’re in, there are a number of ways to accomplish that. Standards maintain operations and innovation increases output. Creating a system that is effective and reliable will give your team confidence. That same confidence creates ease in managing systems and processes.
Morale is a direct result of leadership style. Where Managers maintain operations, Leaders influence morale. To maintain high team morale, the Leader has to create a culture of people who not only want more for themselves individually but trust their Leader to help them reach their highest potential. There is a quote by John C. Maxwell that says “A leader is one who knows the way, goes the way, and shows the way.”
