Trinity, appreciate you joining us today. Let’s talk legacy – what sort of legacy do you hope to build?
I hope my legacy would be to do what you love. As time passes on, I’ve realized how important it is to cherish every moment, to live the life you want to live, go after your dreams, and take risks.
Awesome – so before we get into the rest of our questions, can you briefly introduce yourself to our readers.
I’ve loved art and creating ever since I could pick up a pencil. I always said I wanted to be an artist when I got older. There was something about making things that really gave me peace even when there was certain struggles growing up. I knew If I painted or made something with my hands I would feel better. My family always saw that. They would get me the little craft sets and send me to art camp during the summer. They are definitely a huge part of my artistic journey and why I felt so safe starting my business as an artist.
When I graduated high school I started painting and exploring many different art mediums to try and navigate my way as an artist and figure out what direction I wanted my business to go.
I painted, practiced digital art, sculpted, played with jewelry, and fell in love with all of it. It was definitely difficult to narrow down my artistic focus on what I wanted to truly pursue.
I started doing local pop ups in San Antonio and started selling my artwork, original prints, and stickers. As I continued to practice my digital art, I also began creating logos and designs for local businesses in my community.
Also this past year, I became a mom. This reshaped my whole identity, not only as an person, but as an artist too. I was able to embrace all that is me. I began to find the inner strength and confidence I never knew I had. I think that really helped me create art that I truly love.
How’d you meet your business partner?
I met my business partner Irvin when I was a sophomore in high school, and we became high school sweet hearts. He always loved my art and the dreams I had of starting my own business. When I became a full time artist, he saw how liberating it was to do what you love, and didn’t want to waste one more day doing a job he didn’t like. He decided to try and start his own business, and now also helps me with mine. Now we get to create and navigate our businesses together. I couldn’t imagine doing any of this without him.
What else should we know about how you took your side hustle and scaled it up into what it is today?
Getting to know my community and putting my art out there at local markets definitely helped me grow my business into a full time career. There are people out there that will love what you create and appreciate it just as much as you do. It’s also a great way to see what products work for you, and market your brand.
