We recently connected with Mark Gray and have shared our conversation below.
Mark, thanks for joining us, excited to have you contributing your stories and insights. We’d love to hear about the best boss, mentor, or leader you’ve ever worked with.
Wherever I have worked, my managers or directors have all been great. When I started working at Stonecrest hospital Denise Rowley hired me. She was awesome!!! Now I have a new director name Kyle Cooper he is awesome as well. He roll his sleeves up and works with us, we are like a family. And I also work with some wonderful people, Martha Duncan, Trish Ruggier, Rose Dimirack, Sabrina Zachery, and Jeremy Pegues aka Chef Majic.
As always, we appreciate you sharing your insights and we’ve got a few more questions for you, but before we get to all of that can you take a minute to introduce yourself and give our readers some of your back background and context?
I started singing gospel music when I was 6 years old my grandmother and mother always had me in church learning about God and singing music. I have always been a lover of God and music. I have been in the music industry over 30 plus years I have traveled with several celebrities on their tours. After singing for so many years I have learned the business and I have seen people struggle in the music industry so I decided to become a producer have my own Publishing Company have my own management company and now I am a co-host to two podcast. The back and forth podcast and Heat level podcast. On the back and forth podcast I work with Bill Howell and we also have a management company together and a Publishing Company together. On the second podcast it’s called heat level podcast where I am a co-host with Wyqeem Abdallah Talib. Also working with Heat level is Naomi Dawson, Roshea Gray’s, and Devan Hustle Muscle Phillips. We also have book authors from Nashville Tennessee who are we are looking to sign and their names are Deana Watson Drake, and Author Elle Marcel. There are so many artists and people that we try to help and try to teach them the business I’m going to name some people who are in the business and who inspired me as well. My wife Trina Gray, Danielle Henderson, Kits Crackin from Watts, California, Dominique Gordan, Dre on the track boi, Bobby Black, Cookupboss, Luh Shife, Slimmm, Vontia, Toine South film producer from Atlanta, Georgia. Aaron Hudson from Atlanta, Lokkjaw, Likwid Flowz, Acebeatz615, Marquibe Smith, Don Taty,Trent Turner, Chris Jones and OT3 from Meridian, Mississippi. These next brothers name I call out mean alot to me, they helped me through a tough time in my life. They are Larry Smith, Isaiah Smith, Jerome Scales, Larry Turnley, and Sterling Wright from the tv show Hell’s Kitchen.
What do you find most rewarding about being a creative?
My reward is to see another artist whom I’ve helped make it further than I have because when I have made it to a certain point I went back to help people who need help so hopefully the people who was around me have learned to go back and help one another instead of always trying to make money off of an artist or their work there is enough money in the world for everyone I just believe that we all should help each other. It’s also funny that you asked me this question because the artist from Meridian Mississippi which is ot3 needed some help so me and Bill reached out and as we speak we are working with him on some things so he can be successful.
We’d love to hear the story of how you built up your social media audience?
Yes the first thing for me is that I always keep God first and you never burn any Bridges because if you burn some bridges you could hurt yourself always have good positive things posted on your social media. And another thing don’t always expect for people to like or check out your social media and you don’t check out their things or like their music or comment on what they have going on if we all work together we can build so much more and even if you don’t like what they have, you can always reach out to that person and try to create something really good. I have heard some horrible music in my time but I reached out to them to see if we can make something greater.
