We were lucky to catch up with Terri Ann Heiman recently and have shared our conversation below.

Hi Terri Ann, thanks for joining us today. We love heartwarming stories – do you have a heartwarming story from your career to share?

Not too long ago, I had a former client reach out to me. I had not heard from her in about a year. She had lost her husband to cancer and was struggling with how to go on. Her grief was overwhelming. She texted me…”Things have been life-changing. Honestly the day after our session I decided to open my heart like you advised. I met a widower and we are now married!!! Crazy. I attribute the faith leap to our session.” So often I don’t even know the extent of how my work helps but every once in a while I receive a text like this.

Or this text from working with a client that was diagnosed with cancer. After her follow-up checkup she wrote to me saying… “Terri… I am still processing this incredible news but wanted to share that my cell counts have normalized. Happy tears at my cancer center. My oncologist wants to keep an eye on this but of course, I can’t even put into words how I feel right now. My doctor was delighted if a bit confused about what to do with me. It’s a blessing and a miracle and I’m not questioning it… just grateful. Today feels like a brand new beginning. She asked me what the heck I’d been doing since the last time she saw me and I told her lots of meditation and yoga. Thank you so much for your guidance and sharing your gifts with me through this. I’m in awe of this gift and will not take it for granted.”

This is why I keep doing what I am doing.

Terri Ann, before we move on to more of these sorts of questions, can you take some time to bring our readers up to speed on you and what you do?

My work in the Healing Arts began by making jewelry with crystals and stones. My jewelry was sold in high-end boutiques in NYC and the Hamptons. My hands were blessed by Shamans for my beading work in making sacred objects. Without even knowing it, those same blessings led to my first Spiritual teacher after my husband of 13 years announced he was in love with another woman.

At that moment of the announcement, the universe stood still as I heard myself ask.. who was I. Who had I been listening to? Not me. Not my spirit. Those thoughts changed my life…

The path I’d been on came to an abrupt end in a matter of a few minutes. My partner, my soulmate, the man I thought I’d spend the rest of my life with been having an affair with a woman at his office. I couldn’t believe it was happening to me. Where had I been?

I found myself lost. Afraid. And in need of major help. I had two small children that needed me. I knew somehow I had to not only survive but also dig deep inside and find the courage to move forward. I went to several talk therapists. That helped get the issues up front, but I still wasn’t reaching deep enough. I was so stuck in my own fear, I didn’t know how I was going to pull out of this. I was alone, scared, and crying every day.

Once I met my spiritual teacher, the guidance came pouring in. I started removing the blocks and let the past go. I learned about my empathic nature and my Intuitive gifts that had also been buried underneath it all.

I went deep within and found that force inside. My spirit wasn’t just there…it was screaming to come alive and find its way back into my life.

You see, everything is energy. It’s just that some things are denser than others… like pain, fear, and suffering which are root causes of our suffering.

Just a little movement, even a small change, can spark the fire in you to breathe the air and ground your existence with the ebb and flow of the waters of life.

Even just moving a little energy begins a ripple effect. This effect, like a pebble in a pond, ripples out and creates movement, taking us to a new place.

My greatest purpose now is to help guide others back to their spirit, no matter how stuck they are and no matter how big the block may be.

It’s not your typical talk therapy that I am using. It’s ENERGY Medicine.

It’s the root of our existence. It’s the force within us that propels us each and every day. It’s the divine universal life force that gets to the very root of the blocks that hold us captive to our past.

From that very first moment of tapping into my spirit back in the 90s, I knew my entire life had shifted.

That whole experience (and many more since) has brought me to where I am today, more than able to help others make this same kind of shift. I changed my life, my friends, and my calling. I went back to school. I studied Healing Arts and Interfaith Spiritual Counseling. I learned I had many gifts to be of service to others. I created a new life for myself and my children.

I not only survived, but I also thrived. I raised my children and supported them all the way through college. Now they are both out of school and living their paths, and doing quite well, I might add.

I have acquired many tools like Reiki/Energy Healings, Akashic Readings, Crystal and Color Therapies, Intuitive Development, The Tarot, Emotional Freedom Technique, and Spiritual Counseling.

Can you share a story from your journey that illustrates your resilience?

My work in the Healing Arts began as a side hustle. I was a single mom living in New York. I was newly divorced and had recently discovered how much working in the realm of Energy Medicine was helping me to change my life. It was helping me to cope with the anxiety and stress of raising 2 children and working full-time as a photographer in the jewelry industry.

I had always made jewelry and started to apply Reiki and Crystal energy to my jewelry designs. Jewelry became the gateway to working with people and teaching them about Energy. I would sell a pair of Quartz earrings and then offer an energy session to further explore the way in which healing could come forward.

I always say jewelry saved my life. Not only did it open the door for Spiritual development but it also helped to sustain my lifestyle and raise my children.

As the years went by, I continued to develop my Spiritual practice helping others to do the same. Eventually, this became the full-time business I have today as an Intuitive and Spiritual Mentor.

I often think it might have been easier if I had gone the professional photographer route instead of one as a Spiritual Mentor.

Many confuse spirituality with religion not realizing the full scope of spirituality, especially working in the metaphysical realm.

It has been a challenge to help people open their minds to what is not seen is just as important to what is seen. Many people want to judge this work as “woo-woo” and not recognize the power that comes from within oneself. We all have this invisible force of energy around us that keeps us healthy, and we all can learn to work with the subtle body.

According to the National Institute of Heath, Energy Medicine has the theory that we all have this invisible subtle body, and when it becomes stuck or stagnant, we create dis-ease in the body. Energy Medicine practitioners seek to improve this flow of energy.

I brought my work to the deep south, Birmingham, Alabama, in 2011 so that I could help my aging parents. This challenge became very apparent to me in Birmingham. Many accused me of doing the “devil’s” work. I almost gave up. But the Spirit inside of me wouldn’t let me. I dug into my work, wrote a book, and built a stronger business.

I wouldn’t say I would change my decision to move back to Birmingham but it definitely stifled my business growth. Now 11 years later, I see how many people I have taught in Birmingham that are using the RITES …Reiki, Intuition, Tarot, EFT, and Stones & Crystals in their work. I am very grateful to have been able to help raise the consciousness in this city.

Can you tell us about a time you’ve had to pivot?

I think everyone had to pivot during covid. My business was in its biggest growth phase and then during the 2 years of covid, it began to fail. I couldn’t lead my in-person groups and many people didn’t trust energy work if it wasn’t hands-on and in person. I had to put all my work online so that I could continue.

I was already podcasting and doing live streams but had to learn additional skills and lots of new technology to succeed. Today, I am grateful for these new skills and the ability to pivot my work as I continue to grow. My dream is to work from anywhere and this pivot is helping me to achieve that.

My main advice is to make sure that not only are you passionate about what you do but that you also have some business skills. Often, as artists and healers, we aren’t taught this and struggle more from lack of business knowledge than from lack of know-how in our profession. This was a defining moment when I realized I needed a business coach, not more healing certifications.

I think the ability to collaborate and work with others is a sure way to succeed. It’s time we get back to creating community and helping each other. My growth would not be successful without others. As we collaborate and share in the success around us, we build a stronger and more loving world.
