Alright – so today we’ve got the honor of introducing you to Sharron Johnson. We think you’ll enjoy our conversation, we’ve shared it below.
Sharron, appreciate you joining us today. What was it like going from idea to execution? Can you share some of the backstory and some of the major steps or milestones?
I launched Critique Agency first in 2005 as a modeling agency. In 2018 I became an LLC under Critique Empire LLC branching into the entertainment field as a whole. I majored in Business Communications and Network Marketing. I wanted to bring everything that I do under one entity. I love educating models, working with artist and making people look fabulous, as well as supporting and branding other businesses. My goal is to be one of the top entertainment and branding companies worldwide. It take time to build a strong stable team. Each individual has to specialize in their position. I educated myself on each position as I believe a CEO should know the ends and outs of their business. I have some amazing people who I work with and mentors who guide me in the right direction. I’m not at all where I hope to be, but I pray for elevation each year during the process to success. When it come to my career and what I do, I am a licensed cosmetologist, PR Specialist, Entrepreneur in the fashion and entertainment industry as well as a mental health specialist. I believe you can have multiple talents as long as you can manage to balance them all. Family is important so I try to include them in my business life as well as I push entrepreneurship and following your dreams.

Sharron, love having you share your insights with us. Before we ask you more questions, maybe you can take a moment to introduce yourself to our readers who might have missed our earlier conversations?
I believe in professionalism so I pride myself in being professional first. In the beginning I started with family, friends and a few strangers who became family. I’ve built long term business relationships and friendships surrounding what I love. it’s always hard pursuing a career but anything worth fighting for won’t come easy. Networking is the key to success, so I actually have been given the name The Network Queen. When I quit my government job in 2017 I started hair school at empire beauty school and organizing networking events once a month in order to keep a float. I’ve help designers with investors. Models with getting to the right people in the industry and now working with artist on their image and career. I love every aspect of what I do. I’m not in it for the money but for the freedom of living. Being able to create my own schedule, being their first my family and friends it’s what’s important to me. I missed a lot working in the corporate world but being an entrepreneur in the corporate world is worth so much more. I had my own store which was a process and lesson on what I really wanted to do with my business. Now I’m focusing on getting another venue just for a Creative space to have events and to provide a space where creatives can come to create. I also love doing hair and holistic therapy as I love to help others enhance their appearance. My goal in the cosmetology industry is to focus on beauty and mental as stylist are where people come to pamper themselves and get a moment for self care. As you can see I believe in multiple streams of income as well as tapping into all of your talents. We are not meant to be in a box nor one dimensional.

We’d love to hear a story of resilience from your journey.
I recently had to let my store go due to lack of support and just not being able to have the freedom to do what I wanted to do in my space. At times people will see what your doing and instead of coming together they rather do their own thing. I believe in time, place and the right people and that space wasn’t it. I learned a valuable lesson which was to let go of things that fight against your success. The right people, places and things will come with positivity, elevation and ease. It was hard for me to let it go but just as I’ve always have I continued to be consistent no matter what. With or without a building I am a business.
How about pivoting – can you share the story of a time you’ve had to pivot?
Man I’ve had to constantly pivot or try different avenues when it came to my business. During Covid I started showcasing in clubs with my business partner and it was definitely something different. I received a lot of backlash because of the scenery because my audience was use to bigger venues and upscale environments. But you have to be willing to try new things. I’ve also learned that I have to let people go that does not align with my vision and goals. People will come into your life wanting help but not willing to build with you. I get too attached to those who has potential wanting everyone to win. But I’m learning that every one is not meant to go with you.
