We recently connected with Shaymeshia Pacius and have shared our conversation below.
Alright, Shaymeshia thanks for taking the time to share your stories and insights with us today. Let’s talk about social media – do you manage your own or do you have someone or a company that handles it for you? Why did you make the choice you did?
Since opening in 2020, I have been doing it all by myself. Coming up with the perfect recipes, figuring out the correct jars, making, designing and printing labels, searching for pop up shops, working the table at the pop up shops, running the social media accounts and so much more.

As always, we appreciate you sharing your insights and we’ve got a few more questions for you, but before we get to all of that can you take a minute to introduce yourself and give our readers some of your back background and context?
Upon having my first child in June of 2020, I noticed he had dry skin, which turned out to be eczema. After trying product after product I finally stumbled upon shea butter. After a while of using that I then discovered that I could make a softer version. At first it was difficult trying to figure out the right formula. So I did a lot of research, which led me to making body scrubs. Once I figured out the right formula for the body butters and the body scrubs, I was able to come up with 12 different kinds. I created a website, started advertising and began selling online and at pop up shops. Oftentimes I bring my siblings or nieces and nephews to the pop-up shops with me. It shows them that they can have their own business too and it teaches them different skills.
Do you sell on your site, or do you use a platform like Amazon, Etsy, Cratejoy, etc?
Currently I am using Facebook as a platform to sell my products. A pro when selling your products using a platform is definitely the amount of exposure. You don’t really have to advertise as much when you’re using a platform. Customers who use those platforms can easily access your products by searching for general things. Since I use Facebook someone can search for body butters, body scrubs or any other products I sell and my page will be one of those that is generated. A con is not being within the first couple of products. Therefore you’re more than likely to not get chosen because they will probably find what they need before they get to your product.

Can you talk to us about manufacturing? How’d you figure it all out? We’d love to hear the story.
I manufacture my own products. I had no clue what I was doing in the beginning. I researched a lot and I tried countless of recipes for each of my products before settling on the perfect one. I do purchase my body butters and oils wholesale. Even doing that it took me a couple of vendors to go through, before I found what would work for my company. In order to figure out what was perfect for me, I had to consider a price, shipping & more. Throughout it all I have learned that when it comes to manufacturing a product you must do your research about the ingredients, outcomes, jar sizes, labels, needs & wants of your audience, etc; It’s not just a one shot type of thing it’s trial & error.
