We caught up with the brilliant and insightful Shatavia Luck a few weeks ago and have shared our conversation below.

Hi Shatavia , thanks for joining us today. If you could go back in time do you wish you had started your business sooner or later

I often get this question, sometimes in the back of my mind I wish i would have started sooner. However I’m a believer of “when it’s time, it’s time”. It’s been awesome so start something in the middle of a pandemic and people still support you.

Shatavia , before we move on to more of these sorts of questions, can you take some time to bring our readers up to speed on you and what you do?

I’m a 29 year old young lady from VA. I moved to GA when I was about 11/12 years old and been here ever since. I got into my business in 2020 after thinking about it over the course of a couple of years. I thought to myself I love hats and I saw at the time no one sold fedoras to be specific so I did my research on my vendors and once I found what I like, they sky was the limit for me. I’m most proud of the support and consistency. It makes me feel like people care about my business.

What’s worked well for you in terms of a source for new clients?

I’d say my source would be, Facebook. On there I share it to my business page and my personal page. Not even just to drop the ball there, I even get shares from friends & family, I have made posts in marketplace, which is a tab on Facebook where other people in the area can see my ad. Then of course someone might tag a person who likes fedoras too.

Can you talk to us about how your funded your business?

I started my business with my personal money that I’d been saving since we couldn’t do much during the pandemic. I did some pricing and my vendor worked with me, from there I added seasonal accessories and named my hats unisex names like “boss”. From there it was good.
