Alright – so today we’ve got the honor of introducing you to Kimbi Tiez. We think you’ll enjoy our conversation, we’ve shared it below.

Kimbi, thanks for taking the time to share your stories with us today. We’d love to hear about a project that you’ve worked on that’s meant a lot to you.

The release of my album titled “From the Heart, vol 1.” It is a culmination of several years worth of stories, poems, observations, lessons and affirmations in musical form. It is a personal promise and message to anyone out there to let them know that they are not alone.

Awesome – so before we get into the rest of our questions, can you briefly introduce yourself to our readers.

In my mothers womb I was on stages while she sang in a soul/funk infusion band in the 70’s by the name of “Freedom”. I was born in the South, raised in NY. Always a keen listener and observer of my surroundings. My grandmother was the pianist for over 60years at the family church. I was introduced more to jazz and the sounds of Billie Holiday via my aunts in New York City. I am a lover of music and the power of healing through sound. As a young adult in NY, I took up yoga and other healing modalities. Soon I became an instructor and licensed professional massage therapist. I have always kept journals, written poems and songs naturally. My breakthrough as a singer came through in my spoken word performance journey. So here we are today, this is my story. Through meditations, prayers and grace I have been blessed to see and understand that the pains, the strength, the ups and downs are all of us. I am just sharing my part through music and song. This is who Kimbi Tiez is in summary.

In your view, what can society to do to best support artists, creatives and a thriving creative ecosystem?

The best thing anyone can do to support artists is to share their work. With the power of social media we are able to connect with people all over the world. Sharing a video listening, being creative yourself, dancing or singing an artists song can be “life!” Reach out to them if a song moves or inspires you in some way too. Purchase and download their music. In order for good energy to spread we have to sometimes go with not what’s popular all the time but go with what speaks to your spirit and heart.

For you, what’s the most rewarding aspect of being creative?

The most rewarding of all of this thus far is the sense of peace I feel. Knowing that I did that thing which brought a smile to my heart is everything. To have someone truly listen and hear your words and it helps them to get through a moment in their life or uplifts them as they find an inner strength because of the song, this is confirmation.
