We were lucky to catch up with Wren Robbins recently and have shared our conversation below.
Wren, thanks for joining us, excited to have you contributing your stories and insights. Can you tell us about a time where you or your team really helped a customer get an amazing result?
You have that nagging thought when you want to post something business related on your social media page. You predict that your family and friends don’t want to hear about your business. You think they don’t care. You think they will ignore you. That they will be non supportive. You assume the worst.
I want to introduce you to a client name Emily. Emily was a dream client. She followed my podcast strategy plan to a T. Emily was teachable, she asked questions when she had them, and she implemented what I guided her to do. Implementing well, she posted her podcast artwork on launch day with a link inviting friends and family to listen. Like I said, following the plan to a T.
Seeing the comments on her personal post was really inspiring. Friends and family supporting her with encouraging words AND seeing them get the solution to a problem they have been have having in some of their businesses was absolutely powerful.
Comments like:
-“This is super helpful … I’m thinking of reverting to being an independent coach/consultant … I may well reach for advice”
-Ah! I am so glad I stumbled across this! I run my own consulting biz and am on the hunt for a new accountant. Sending you a message!”
-“I am so in. We have been talking about an LLC and I don’t know a thing about them. Thank you!!”
She messaged me the next day and told me that even though her friends and family weren’t her target market, she realized that it’s not her job to predict how far her business would be taken with her content on the podcast, it was her job to put her content out into he world. To do the thing and launch her podcast!
She thanked me and said that if it wasn’t for me she would have never launched her podcast. Make no mistake…she did the work but having me guiding her along the way and keeping her accountable was key.
Wren, before we move on to more of these sorts of questions, can you take some time to bring our readers up to speed on you and what you do?
I was standing at my kitchen stove stirring a pot of spaghetti sauce. I was listening to a business coach on a podcast and something started stirring in my heart. I resonated so much with what she was saying. More on this in a minute.
I’m a native Memphian, wife, mom and Podcast & Business Strategist. I launched my own podcast over six years ago and have seen the benefits of podcasting as posting evergreen content (that does not have a time limit), connecting with listeners in a way no other form of communication can, and growing a thriving business.
Listening to that one podcast episode while stirring the spaghetti sauce, God used to stir something up in me. Becoming a podcast and business strategist wouldn’t happen for two more years because I was being full time wife and mom, but I continued to set up my business behind the scenes for when the time came to launch my business. I continued podcasting and created a content plan, gained downloads, and got my ears on every business strategic podcast I could. I launched a web site and paid to be in a business group coaching program.
In March of 2020, I posted in the business group coaching program I was a part of as I was doing market research for a course or podcast coaching. A business owner reached out wanting my help launching her podcast for her business. She became my my first client and has seen incredible growth in her business since then! The rest is history but this was the start.
I love helping business owners grow their business through a podcast. The streamlined yet thorough process I walk them through using my P A C framework is what works for them. (Plan-Accountability-Consistency framework)
Giving clients a simple plan, keeping them accountable through launching their podcast with 3 episodes and a plan for many more, and giving them a streamlining workable framework to keep them consistent is what makes me successful and clients able to grow their businesses!
We’d love to hear the story of how you built up your social media audience?
Interestingly enough I prided myself on NOT being on social media. It was a fault that I’ve learned from but I was pretty prideful about not being on Facebook.
But, then Instagram came along and I loved it. The thought of sharing a picture and a caption seemed easy enough. I started an Instagram account and even a Facebook account for my podcast and I learned a lot. When I launched my business a few years later, I realized that both my Instagram and Facebook needed to be separate from my passion project podcast. So, I launched a new Instagram account @wrenrobbinscoach and it has been one of the SMARTEST moves in my business through this social media change.
I have built my audience from the ground up and the one thing I would tell myself if I was just starting out would be to just post the picture I’m overthinking. The bold post? Do it. Post it. Make a small ask in each post…”Double click if you agree, Share this with a biz bestie, Comment an emoji if you can relate.”
Since I started my Instagram account, video has become a great way to interact with listeners and followers. If you are on Instagram and FB, “Stories” are a great way to interact with others, Comment on their videos on stories. Share their content. Being social on our business social media accounts seem frivilous but your followers/listeners need to relate to you, need to know you, to like you in order to buy from you.
My top social media advice:
1) Create a social media page for your business
2)Post it. Don’t overthink
3) Interact with others. Be social.
3) Get in “stories”/video with others
So, I went from being totally cautious about being on any form of social media and now I love it and encourage others to use it for their businesses! I reminded myself of when Michael Scott said, “oh how the turned tables….”HA
Any advice for growing your clientele? What’s been most effective for you?
The best and most effective strategy I have for growing my business are referrals. When you serve someone well, they will refer you to others! Serving a client well includes do what you say you will do, give them feedback, and set boundaries for yourself. Going the extra mile is hard to come by in the world today, but online business owners can do this seamlessly and it adds extreme value to your clients. Add something extra of value to your client to close the deal. When you are in the middle of coaching them, connect them with others that either 1) need their services 2) can refer others to them.
