We’re excited to introduce you to the always interesting and insightful Briyanna Tiafoe. We hope you’ll enjoy our conversation with Briyanna below.
Briyanna, thanks for taking the time to share your stories with us today Learning the craft is often a unique journey from every creative – we’d love to hear about your journey and if knowing what you know now, you would have done anything differently to speed up the learning process.
In high school, I took a photography and design class that was tailored towards learning simple photoshop functions and tasks. At the time, I took the class just because it seemed to be the easiest elective available, but that lazy decision fostered what would be my new found passion. I began to experiment with photoshop and dug deeper into the application, learning new things everyday as the years went by. I watched, and still do watch, a lot of Youtube videos and read a lot of articles to keep myself updated and challenged. There are numerous opportunities to learn new things and I try to take each one I get. I don’t like to stay boxed in.
I think the speed at which I learned was meant for me. I don’t think it needed to be done any faster or slower than it was, I think I was in all the right places at the right time. Even if it didn’t feel that way at the time, or it felt uncomfortable due to failures, everything happens for a reason and it’s all apart of where I am today.
With photoshop, there are so many different aspects to it that it’s hard to really pinpoint what skill is most essential. The most important skill is to just be creative, and at times, or often all the time, the only things that stand between me and exercising that skill is myself and self- doubt, which I’m sure many creatives can understand.
Great, appreciate you sharing that with us. Before we ask you to share more of your insights, can you take a moment to introduce yourself and how you got to where you are today to our readers
For those who are unfamiliar, and those who may know me already, my name is Briyanna (Bri) Tiafoe and I am a freelance graphic designer from Prince George’s County, MD, by way of Sierra Leone and Liberia, West Africa. I am a graduate of Towson University (B.S.) and Liberty University, where I received a M.S. in Digital Marketing and Advertising. I love creative things and artsy projects, which is why I fell so in love with graphic design. It’s a way for me to free my mind and allow the things in my head to be seen in ways that my mouth sometimes just simply cannot explain.
I offer many different services including flyer designs, motion flyer designs, logos, acuity sites, poster designs, t-shirt designs, & more. The main problem I solve for my clients, is their struggle to bring their visions to life. I try my best to make sure everything that is verbally communicated to me is done for each and every one of my clients. The main thing that I feel sets me apart, is that I do not have a specific niche, I do and try everything. I prefer it that way because I want to bring everyone’s visions to life, not just one crowd or audience. There is no particular project that I’m most proud of currently, but more so I’m proud of my diligence in terms of withstanding the everyday struggles that come with being a creative and a business owner. I’m most proud that i’m still going, still creating.
If there’s anything I want readers to know about me and my brand, it’s that the best is yet to come. I believe that everyday I wake up is a chance to keep going, so as long as I do, I will continue to create. If you like what you’re seeing from Book Breezy Graphics now, just wait for me, it will only get better.
Are there any resources you wish you knew about earlier in your creative journey?
One resource I wish I knew about earlier, is Facebook Communities. Facebook allows spaces for creatives like myself to come together, network, get help, ask questions, and share our work with one another. It’s comforting to have a community of people like myself, and I’m happy that I’ve come across it!
Is there mission driving your creative journey?
I really want to be a designer in the music or entertainment industry, so that goal often plays in my head when I feel like giving up. Nobody that got to where they are now got there by giving up, so that idea reminds me to keep going and keep creating no matter what. One day, I’ll come back to read this and just smile. I know I’ll get there.
