We were lucky to catch up with Erica Scott recently and have shared our conversation below.
Hi Erica, thanks for joining us today. How did you learn to do what you do? Knowing what you know now, what could you have done to speed up your learning process? What skills do you think were most essential? What obstacles stood in the way of learning more?
I took advantage of signing up for masterclasses about blogging and content creating. During the pandemic there were so many free options and YouTube definitely was such a gateway to learn more and following content from my favorite content creators. If I could go back to speed up the process I would have taken more advantage of taking more pictures in places outdoor when there weren’t so many people out in the city during the shut down. Now I have to set up specific times to go out and take pictures. I think the most essential skills is to build your community and find a group who like to do the same thing as you. I met a group of content creators over the pandemic and we meet once a month to take pictures and participate in monthly events. I think obstacles that most content creators face is negotiating brand deals. Its a learning curve and its all about being able to provide the service and to be fairly paid. I have had my share of partnerships but I learned how to successfully ask for what I need and why I should be paid a certain amount.
Awesome – so before we get into the rest of our questions, can you briefly introduce yourself to our readers.
My name is Erica @everythingabouterica, and I am a third generation DC Washingtonian native, that currently lives in Philadelphia. I am a Visual Merchandising Manager during the day and I am a micro-influencer and content creator after hours. Now that we have met let’s get into analytics! I have a 4.6 engagement rate and my audience are women in their early 20’s to 38 years of age. My readers and followers like fashion and lifestyle content. My goal is to continue to grow within this market and continue to stand behind products and brands that I love and that are important to me. My other hobbies include spending time with family, thrifting, and wine.
Is there a particular goal or mission driving your creative journey?
I would say that my goal with being a creative started as a hobby and having something to do during the pandemic , to blooming into a passion. I want to continue to create because it is an outlet for me and give me su much joy and ability to connect with people just like me.
For you, what’s the most rewarding aspect of being a creative?
I think the most rewarding aspect of being a content creator is the overall exposure and being able to connect with someone who is either following me or came across my profile. Also being able to be myself and get paid for it!
