Alright – so today we’ve got the honor of introducing you to MARIANNE MADSEN. We think you’ll enjoy our conversation, we’ve shared it below.
MARIANNE, thanks for taking the time to share your stories with us today Can you recount a time when the advice you provided to a client was really spot on? (Please note this response is for education/entertainment purposes only and shouldn’t be construed as advice for the reader)
Trust your instincts. If you think something is wrong, it probably is. I have many clients who have been to many healthcare professionals and have been told “nothing is wrong,” because all testing is within “normal” ranges. “Normal” is a relative thing, and what’s “normal” for one isn’t normal for someone else. Keep looking until you can discover the root cause of your issues.
Awesome – so before we get into the rest of our questions, can you briefly introduce yourself to our readers.
SugarHouse Holistic Health offers alternative and complementary solutions for a variety of health issues. We focus on providing symptom relief and improving quality of life for those with myalgic encephalomyelitis/chronic fatigue syndrome (ME/CFS), Lyme disease, multiple sclerosis (MS), and other chronic illnesses. We also work with families, especially women and children, to help them understand and resolve the problems they face.
I started SugarHouse Holistic Health when I worked at a medical clinic focusing on people with myalgic encephalomyelitis / chronic fatigue syndrome (ME/CFS) that had a waiting list of over 800 people, people who needed help but couldn’t even get into the clinic to see a practitioner. This tremendous need for help for people with chronic illness spurred me toward opening my own clinic where I could provide holistic healthcare to those who need it most–people dealing with chronic conditions.

Putting training and knowledge aside, what else do you think really matters in terms of succeeding in your field?
Curiosity. You need to be curious about each person who needs your help, curious enough to keep digging until you find out what’s causing their issues. And caring. You need to care deeply about the person, enough to help them, sometimes through a long period, to get better–not always completely well, but better.
What do you think helped you build your reputation within your market?
Education. I’ve trained with some of the most highly respected people in my field. I have learned so many important things from each and every one of them. Sometimes when I’m seeing a person, I hear their voices in my head, repeating something they’ve told me that would be appropriate in the situation.
