We were lucky to catch up with Pascal Kinsey recently and have shared our conversation below.
Hi Pascal, thanks for joining us today. What’s the best or worst investment you’ve made?
One of the best investments that I could make is investing in a good camera but investing more into lenses. When I first started as a photographer, I was using the standard kit lens that came with the camera, nothing was wrong with that however I knew that wasn’t going to be a lens that I will use forever. I wanted my pictures crisp, clear and sharp. I got on Youtube and started watching videos on good lenses. However, I didn’t realize that they were going to be crazy expensive. I saved for a couple of months and bought my first great piece of glass, it was a Sigma Art Lens 24mm 1.4 and well worth it! I shot everything with that one lens!

Awesome – so before we get into the rest of our questions, can you briefly introduce yourself to our readers.
My name is Pascal Kinsey, I am 27 years old. Born and raised in Kansas City, Missouri. At 15 years old I picked up a camera for the first time and I began my journey as a photographer at the age of 21. It was at that age that I devoted myself to the craft; those around me quickly gravitated to my photography style. As a freelance photographer, I have had the chance to work with a pretty awesome list of people thus far from current and former NFL players, well-known clothing brands, weddings and beautiful families and friends. In 2018 I began to sell prints of my work and in 2019 I created my most notable art piece called the ‘Royal Crown’ this piece is a Kansas City Royals hat elevating over the skyline of Kansas City. This piece has opened so many doors for me. In 2020, I followed that up with the ‘Forever Chief’ photo, this piece is a Kansas City Chiefs helmet elevating over the skyline of Kansas City. Those two photos have been featured in businesses in Kansas City including: West Elm, Starbucks and Evolve Juicery. I am most proud of these pieces because they are an original concept that I created and executed through and through.
Are there any books, videos, essays or other resources that have significantly impacted your management and entrepreneurial thinking and philosophy?
Yes, there are a couple of books that have impacted my management and entrepreneurial thinking.
The Latte Factor – personal finance
Your Next Five Moves – Mastering the art of business strategy
Invisible Influence – The hidden forces that shape behavior
A video that I watch often is the Rap Radar interview featuring Nipsey Hussle

Can you tell us about a time you’ve had to pivot?
In 2020, when the COVID-19 pandemic shut down happened, I had to pivot in life, my career and in business as most people did. During that time is when I say that I turned into more of a brand than just a photographer. I created my own merchandise line called Kamera Crew (Kamera with a K for the initials of KC). During the pandemic, I went back to college to finish up my bachelors degree in marketing at Thur University of Missouri – Kansas City. I am currently in a graduate Intergraded Marketing program at the University of Kansas to expand my knowledge in marketing / digital marketing and build my network.
