Alright – so today we’ve got the honor of introducing you to Willie Boy. We think you’ll enjoy our conversation, we’ve shared it below.
Willie, thanks for joining us, excited to have you contributing your stories and insights. Has your work ever been misunderstood or mischaracterized?
It’s hard to create your own identity and stand out in the era of social media. Every rapper looks and sounds the same. Every account that hits your algorithm (weather you follow them or not) is hand picked by the man, I want my art to rebel against that. I’m not in the business of “doing what works for others” or having a format. My goal going forward with art is to create what there’s a void for and inspire. I want the arenas, I want the awards, just like every other artist, but like Frank said, I’ll do it my way.

Willie, love having you share your insights with us. Before we ask you more questions, maybe you can take a moment to introduce yourself to our readers who might have missed our earlier conversations?
I’ve told my story a lot over the years, how I came up and how I started, but these days I just want the content of music to blend into the listener’s current surroundings. Whatever you’re going through, use this music however you choose to. The lyrics should mean exactly what you want them to mean. My intent with them is irrelevant, who am I to ruin your fun? I’m proud to be whatever my listeners need me to be.
What can society do to ensure an environment that’s helpful to artists and creatives?
Likes are free, story posts are free, if you like something share it. Show it to your friends, add it to your playlist. I know that sounds preachy and uncool, but don’t hog your favorite artists, show them to the world. They may have that one song that changes someone’s life.

Are there any books, videos or other content that you feel have meaningfully impacted your thinking?
Absolutely, I read The Secret and that changed everything. The 7 Spiritual Laws as well. Your reality is truly yourself turned outward. Everything you’re going through, good or bad, you’ve created. What you put out, you get back.
