Alright – so today we’ve got the honor of introducing you to Slick Shawn . We think you’ll enjoy our conversation, we’ve shared it below.
Slick , thanks for taking the time to share your stories with us today Can you talk to us about a project that’s meant a lot to you?
My most meaningful project I have worked on is an Album I released in 2017 titled “Godspeed” It gave me a chance to be experimental and have many collaborators. In total I collaborated with over 20 people and It was a great piece of work one that I would still put up to my works Im doing now. That speaks volumes, the music has to be timeless. It must be something you can hear years later and still relate. I named it “Godspeed” as somewhat of a manifestation that things would be in favor with God and since this album or manifestation if you will, things have been on the up and up with me and I can look back to the challenge of Executive Producing my own album and bringing all the parts together it was definitely my sign to say hey you got this. Also a major achievement on this project was that I got to work with 2 of my idols growing up in Hip-Hop that being Memphis rapper Project Pat and ATL’s own Big Rube of The Dungeon Family. And a person who Im inspired by as well Spoken Word Artist Georgia ME. It was a pleasure to work with all of them, I went on to interview Project Pat and Big Rube on my Podcast titled Spotlight Series Podcast. It was my aha I made it moment for sure.

Awesome – so before we get into the rest of our questions, can you briefly introduce yourself to our readers.
I go by Slick Shawn I was born and raised in Alabama in the Huntsville Metro area in a town called Athens. I later made Huntsville my home for 17 years until I moved to the Atlanta area in 2019. I got into the industry by being a hip hop artist at the age of 15. I would go to perform at what was called The Black Arts Festival in Huntsville and at parties in Athens rocking mics and made a name for myself. I joined a group called Cosanostra with rappers Kapone and Big Dog I went by Ace Tha Bandit. We linked up with a brother name Kool who would get us shows opening up for acts like KP and Envy, Kilo Ali, Lil John and the Eastside Boyz, 36 Mafia, Trina, etc. There I learned the ins and outs of the music industry at a young age I learned how to be my own boss. The group broke up but we still remained friends we all just started doing our own thing. I later changed my name to Slick Shawn. I wanted something with my name in it and wanted to pay homage to rappers like Slick Rick who told stories and the rest was history. I have released 3 studio albums and recently released a single titled “Purge” out on all platforms. After creating my media company iRiE Swag ENT in 2011 I began acting, doing graphics, designing websites, creating logos, photography, and developing apps for Roku TV and Amazon Fire TV. I am a content writer for Homes.com, I host/produce a podcast called Spotlight Series Podcast, I am Technology Manager and an On-Air personality for 2Hot radio. I have a role in an upcoming audio series executive produced by Kevin Hart and Charlemagne Tha God. I offer Content Writing, Audio and Video editing, Directing, pre and post production, Website Design, App development, Music Writing, Mixing, Mastering and A&R, Music Publishing. Voice Over and Acting, Hosting, Performing, and Inspirational Speaking . The problems I solve is I give clients top professional work from someone experienced and well resourced to get the job done. I take away the stress of having to handle projects no matter how big or small I help maximize your Brand by the quality of work and the timely fashion its done in.
Can you tell us about a time you’ve had to pivot?
Life is about pivots, if you are not able to improvise and prioritize you will miss out on the big picture. I once pivoted from working on my album to do a content writing project that brought money in a quicker fashion than the music project and also could be used to fund the music project. So I prioritized to what money and funds I could bring in now. I feel you have to be able to discern when its time to pause and go.

Can you share a story from your journey that illustrates your resilience?
Ive been told no, no and no again many times when it comes to my acting and voice over goals. So I kept positive and faithful going to casting calls and them wanting me to pay lots of money just for an opportunity to get gigs. So one day Im checking my emails and I get a contact submission from my website asking me if id like to audition for an audio series executive produced by Kevin Hart and Charlemagne Tha God, Im like for sure. So I audition they love it and I now have a role in this amazing audio series thats going to be coming out. I reflected on the blessing and said to myself all the time and energy I put into building and designing my website is paying off. They saw my site, liked it and wanted me to be a part of their production. So I would say to anyone stay your course put your best self out to the world and the laws of attraction will take care of the rest.
