Alright – so today we’ve got the honor of introducing you to The Tiarras. We think you’ll enjoy our conversation, we’ve shared it below.
The Tiarras, appreciate you joining us today. What’s been the most meaningful project you’ve worked on?
One of the most meaningful projects we’ve worked on is our song called “Soy Chingona”. The song has a deep message of empowerment and sisterhood that we hold close to our hearts. Inspired by the women who have kicked down barriers throughout history and our lives, we made sure we pushed that fire forward with the whole production. For the music video, we made it a point to have an all women crew to stay true to the essence of the song. Ever since the idea was born, intention, inclusivity, and empowerment was our main focus. “Soy Chingona” was a song that we wanted our younger selves to hear, so we created it with that in mind. It’s amazing to see the song find its way to so many people and witness the many meanings it holds for everyone.
Great, appreciate you sharing that with us. Before we ask you to share more of your insights, can you take a moment to introduce yourself and how you got to where you are today to our readers
We are an all sister band born and raised in Austin, Texas. Music was always present in our lives and naturally found its way to us. We grew up in a household that embraced all kinds of music as our dad was a DJ for a majority of our childhood and every time we were able to witness him in action, we became more and more mesmerized. The way he was able to capture a crowd showed us the power of music and from then on we were hooked. Years later, we individually began taking private music lessons and eventually began playing songs together as a trio. We then took on the journey of performing live as pre-teens in a male dominated industry with the immense help from our parents. As our music was recognized by local radio, fans online, ect., we signed with Lucky Hound Music, 484 Management, and Cosmica Artists. With this new support, we’re able to reach new fans and create with elevated support behind us. Our upbringing and culture influenced us in a multitude of ways and gives us an eccentric empowering sound that makes people dance but also think deeply. We’re so grateful to be able to make music and grow with those we love most.
What do you find most rewarding about being a creative?
The most rewarding aspect of being an artist is witnessing the impact our music has on others. Our hearts are already fulfilled from making the music itself, so we love getting to hear how much it resonates with our fans. The beautiful compliments, stories, and conversations we hear from our fans make us take a step back to enjoy the moment of being connected with music lovers in an overwhelmingly beautiful way. When we released “Let Love Free”, we had a father reach out to us and let us know that the song inspired his daughter to come out to him. Encounters like that make us realize that what we’re doing is bigger than us. Being uplifted by publications, radio, and social media platforms means that our music can reach others and they can take what they need from it.
Have you ever had to pivot?
One of the most memorable pivoting points in our musical careers and life was our partial re-brand. Our musical journey started when we were pre-teens and we’re now in our 20’s. With time, our music and identities have evolved and we wanted our name to reflect that. For almost a decade, our band name was “Tiarra Girls” and when we changed it to “The Tiarras” we felt ready to start a new era. In preparation of announcing it to the world, we sat down with our management and strategized a smooth transition. Taking photos with a new look, reflecting on the past, and creating music with a new refined sound prepared us for what was to come.
