We’re excited to introduce you to the always interesting and insightful Brittany Garcia. We hope you’ll enjoy our conversation with Brittany below.
Brittany , thanks for taking the time to share your stories with us today Are you happier as a business owner? Do you sometimes think about what it would be like to just have a regular job?
I absolutely love being a business owner. I love being in control of what I create and give to the world. I enjoy managing my time to accommodate what I love to do and feel appreciated doing. I love changing peoples lives through photo. However, it is a lot of responsibility to own a business. Your business is a representation of you so it’s important to me to put the best energy into what I’m doing and giving. I am a business owner of several businesses, on top of having a “regular job” so my time and energy is always being distributed amongst many things. Honestly, I wouldn’t have it any other way. I constantly think about all the opportunities possible by owning my own business vs working for someone else. It’s truly part of my purpose to be managing processes vs being managed, plain and simple. The possibilities are endless to me with owning my own business so that keeps me motivated.
Photography is a true passion of mine so it’s important to me to contribute my time and energy to it so that I feel fulfilled. Even outside of my 9-5, I continue to do sessions, editing and continuous education to manage and support my business. There are definitely times where you feel worn out but the vision of what could be and what I’m able to create keeps me going.
Brittany , before we move on to more of these sorts of questions, can you take some time to bring our readers up to speed on you and what you do?
I’ve always had an entrepreneurial way of thinking when it comes to my creativity. I also always knew I wanted to own my own business and bring my gifts and abilities to work. I had always been the girl in the corner with the camera at all of the beautiful events I’ve been able to attend in my life. I would always want to capture precious moments and believed them to be such a gift to whomever was involved. I had been asked on numerous occasions to help with party planning, set ups and events and I would take it all on because it excited me! I loved creating and seeing the final results come to life. This is what sparked my passion.
You can really feel the energies in the room as you are able to provoke emotion through image, settings and pictures and that is the biggest blessing in my craft. It’s not just about making a living through photography, it’s about what I’m able to give back to my clients. I knew that this is what made me happy and this is what I wanted to give back to people — memories. One of my best friends gifted me with a dslr camera at the beginning of my journey and I couldn’t put it down. I used it for everything, portrait, wedding, family sessions etc it didn’t matter what type of session I was providing, I made it happen with the basic gem of that camera that I was gifted. I eventually upgraded and continued my craft, learning new techniques and trying different equipment. I continued to capture beautiful pictures with friends, started attending photography school and finally LLC’d my business in 2019. I now happily and humbly provide photography services to the Atlanta area.
Can you tell us about what’s worked well for you in terms of growing your clientele?
Referrals! Other than good marketing, integrity is key when it comes to your business. I have such a village of people who promote me and my brand and I am beyond thankful. They work for me and don’t even know it! People trust people, they trust reviews and they rely on a businesses integrity especially when someone they know and trust is promoting the business. I hope that my integrity is shown through my work and the relationships that I continue to build with my clients. All of my amazing clients tag me on social media, give out my name when they hear of someone looking for photography and just support me when I am promoting my business via social media or word of mouth. You don’t have to pay anyone for referrals, let your business speak for you!
Any thoughts, advice, or strategies you can share for fostering brand loyalty?
Keeping in touch with your clients is very important in the photography world because bottom line—there are a lot of photographers out there! When building your clientele, you have to know that you are building forever relationships. You get to meet peoples families, capture life changing moments or witness a new life season unfold. Photography is really personal and I want the families I work with to know that I am always there for them throughout all the things life can bring. If you do things right— they will keep trusting you to capture these moments, which are endless. Being that my sessions are dated, I always like to go through and celebrate the milestones captured the following years to come. It makes the client feel special all over again and reminds them of the memory captured. Depending on what was captured, checking in with your clients to see how things are going, how big baby has gotten or congratulating them on an anniversary goes a really long way. I want my clients to know that I care about them, long term. That their relationship matters to me as a person, friend and business owner.
