We recently connected with Maria Natalia Comerci and have shared our conversation below.
Hi Maria Natalia, thanks for joining us today. Let’s start with a story that highlights an important way in which your brand diverges from the industry standard.
Each of my cakes are customized in both flavors and design. I have not made two cakes alike. Usually the customer brings the theme and I share different ideas. We talk about them and then decide which one is better for the event. One of the changes that I brought to the market is the use of cold porcelain. It is commonly used in my country (Argentina) and it allows you to keep treasure the decorations for ever.

Awesome – so before we get into the rest of our questions, can you briefly introduce yourself to our readers.
My name is Natalia. I’m from Buenos Aires, Argentina. I have been married for over 26 years and have 3 teenagers (my son and twin girls). I studied Business Administration, but my passion has always been cooking. So, I was able to make time to both cook and complete it with cold porcelain modeling courses as a hobby. When my husband was transferred by his company from Argentina to the US in 2019, it was a challenge for me to do what I really liked. The idea to do something related to cooking started to look as a good option. During the pandemic I had the time to plan and do all the paper work and started a licensed cottage food business with all the regulations that the Georgia Department of Agriculture requires. The first time I offer my products it was a taste e in my garage during an event in the subdivision I used to live.
In the beginning, I offered pastries for the the Argentines living in the Atlanta area, since there are almost none pastries shops of this kind here that was the natural way to get started. Then, the Latin American community also started buying my products because we share some identical flavors. Overtime, people also started calling me for birthday parties, sweet 16′, communion, baby shower cakes, promotions and all types of events. So I decided to combine the modeling and the culinary art. I realized that the demand was increasing little by little and that there was a niche to satisfy. As a result, I added the personalized cakes to my menu. Good decision! My husband also developed a page in Google and these two events made a big change on the business. Actually, my main products are the personalized cakes, cookies, cupcakes, popscakes, popsicle and all related treats for parties or corporative events.
I think that the advantage of my business is you can get exactly what you want. I can prepare that special cake or treat you have dreamed of. You can choose shapes, colors, flavors, designs, types of materials to work with and the details you like to add.
A huge advantage is that I can model different 3D figures to add to the cakes so the final product is harmonic and unique. You will not find the same cake in another place which makes Sugary Whim so special.
I do not carry any stock and only work by orders, I do not have cakes ready to pick up because each cake is made fresh just for you as you wanted it. I personally prepare the cakes from scratch up to the final details.
Any advice for growing your clientele? What’s been most effective for you?
Customer feedback and recommendations extremely important key, However Sugary Whim “exploded” when we understood and found the way to effectively use Social Media. Instagran and Google services are certainly one of the keys in our success and helped me expand to the Asian and American Public.

Any stories or insights that might help us understand how you’ve built such a strong reputation?
Quality and customer care. Not only I use the best products and materials, but I am also there with you to develop your experience in a unique way. You can certainly get cakes and pastries in supermarkets and other stores for much less money….but….. you do not get the experience and the quality you take home when you choose Sugary Whim
