Alright – so today we’ve got the honor of introducing you to Jet Grey. We think you’ll enjoy our conversation, we’ve shared it below.
Alright, Jet thanks for taking the time to share your stories and insights with us today. Did you always know you wanted to pursue a creative or artistic career? When did you first know?
I think I wanted to pursue a creative path, especially in music, when I got my first guitar pedal, which was a looper pedal. With the looper pedal, you can record guitar and re-record (overdub) guitars on top of it. It was my first experience with production and creating something that was my own outside of just learning music and singing. After I got the hang of using the looper pedal I used to to create musical ides, record songs and parts of songs, and eventually used it to make beats of my own. After that I fell in love with production and all aspects of it: from idea creation, sound design, arrangement and recording, everything about producing a piece of art from start to finish has fascinated me.

Jet , love having you share your insights with us. Before we ask you more questions, maybe you can take a moment to introduce yourself to our readers who might have missed our earlier conversations?
My name is Jet, Jet Grey, and I am a producer/artist who is currently based in Atlanta. I first started producing, even before I knew what it was, when I was looping and making arrangements with guitar loops when I first started to play the guitar. I started playing the guitar because of Coldplay, a band I listened to that inspired my songwriting and guitar playing for some time. I, outside of creating music for myself, produce music in all types of genres and help artists throughout the process to do the same all the way from sound design to songwriting and everything in between. I think what sets me apart, outside of my musicianship, is my passion for telling stories through music. In this journey of being a producer I’m most proud of working with so many different artists and gaining diversified perspectives on the music making process and my role in their journey as artist. As an artist myself, creating music to tell a story and give meaning in a palpable way has always been a great goal of mine.

What do you find most rewarding about being a creative?
The most rewarding aspect of being an artist/creative is when people come up to me and tell me how a song I had just performed really moved them or made them feel a certain way, or how excited people are when they hear your music and it makes them want to move and dance. I think being able to connect with people through music is wildly fascinating and when you connect with your fans and clients through the music you create it’s a wonderful feeling.
In your view, what can society to do to best support artists, creatives and a thriving creative ecosystem?
I believe society is already changing in ways that creative individuals can thrive and prosper off of. I think it’s our job as artists/producers/musicians, etc, to seek out those ways and opportunities. If you want something in life you have to chase it with passion and intention, and I believe society respects the artistic nature of us creatives.
