We were lucky to catch up with Yessenia Martinez recently and have shared our conversation below.
Yessenia, appreciate you joining us today. Too often the media represents innovation as something magical that only high-flying tech billionaires and upstarts engage in – but the truth is almost every business owner has to regularly innovate in small and big ways in order for their businesses to survive and thrive. Can you share a story that highlights something innovative you’ve done over the course of your career?
Making a client feel like family making them look special and beautiful being there for them at all times it’s a very rough career but seeing happiness and smiles makes every day special to me my clients are family and I make them know so.

Yessenia, love having you share your insights with us. Before we ask you more questions, maybe you can take a moment to introduce yourself to our readers who might have missed our earlier conversations?
“I am an from Puerto Rico born and raised graduated cosmetology school in 2020 had my salon for 13 years in P.R. then decide to move to Florida and give it a try and it has been just the best idea I could’ve of made such a blessing to have this talent as a hairdresser and be able to work it and make it a career every day is a new day of fresh ideas and my clients love it When I started , I didn’t have any clients i was sitting for weeks no one trusted the new girl at the salon in a new city . But I didn’t like to sit around and wait for clients either I wanted to be known, so social media was a plus for me and there I picked out a name for my page stayed commission at the salon, after a few weeks clients were coming back so then I start to rent a chair as clientele was growing. After a couple of months I went solo in my own space and it has been such a blessing from that day it’s a one and one with my client and that Meeks it so special for me and them because you get to know them better, I love working in salons but love more being able to be my own boss and make my own schedule.

How about pivoting – can you share the story of a time you’ve had to pivot?
I was a single mom with two kids when I started in the industry being that I thought I couldn’t with my small children and everyone also use to tell me I couldn’t make it happen because I needed a babysitter and didn’t have the money to pay so I had to make my kids to work with me when I started in 2020. Those objects made me stronger and more fierce to grow so I put everything aside concentrated on my dreams and made it happen God never left my side always was there when no one believed in me.
We’d love to hear the story of how you built up your social media audience?
I put pictures daily of transformations before and afters, always had a sell or promotion going on, for the holidays I work more hours and every single thing I bought for the salon I was postíng and tagging the clients with all the beautiful pictures of their hair and that is just the best portfolio and then your clients bring there family and friends and when you come to see social media is your best marketing tool.
