As a little girl our kitchen always felt like a second home.
I’ve always enjoyed cooking soul food for the people I love. I also enjoyed hearing how much they loved the meals as well.
Oxtail and turkey wings over a bed of steamed white rice with seasoned butter beans with pigtails was my first meal.
It was the first meal I ate regularly and felt equally compelled to prepare for others. This was the birth of Chef Peavley.
Years later, Peavley’s Catering is redefining today’s Soul Food experience one meal at a time.

That’s the best advice I can give anyone who is committed to building a following on social media.
Don’t shy away from the very things that make you unique.
As much as my followers love my cooking, it’s not the only thing they love. They enjoy hearing my roaring laughter, stories surrounding raising my three sons and the music that fuels my soul when cooking.
I share all of these things in hopes that they can see themselves in me.
While I may be serving them for a special occasion or corporate event, our desire to eat quality meals made from the heart is the same.
Don’t hide your flaws. We all have things about ourselves that we find less desirable. I use those things an opportunity to teach others how unique I am and they are too.
Also, be truly sure of who you are before launching your brand.
How about pivoting – can you share the story of a time you’ve had to pivot?
I worked a full-time job for many years before launching my company.
The hours were conducive to my desired lifestyle at the time and permitted me to spend time with my children.
The needs of the company quickly outgrew my full-time job and I had to decided which path I truly wanted to take.
I love the freedom that being self-enterprising afforded me along with the challenges that force me to be creative.
This pivot has allowed me to serve more clients, travel accordingly and build my personal brand.
