We caught up with the brilliant and insightful Taylor Diebold a few weeks ago and have shared our conversation below.
Taylor, thanks for taking the time to share your stories with us today Let’s jump right into how you came up with the idea?
When I was in college I used to work for a little boutique that did custom apparel and decals, I loved creating things at that job and really wanted to get one of the machines for myself and start creating. After I graduated and moved and started my career, I found myself coming up with some fun ideas, I couldn’t believe the endless amount of options I could use the machine for. I was so invested in making some things for myself so one Christmas I asked for the machine and I guess after talking about it for so long someone in my family got it for me. Once I started playing with it a little bit I said to myself wow, I should really start something small on the side. I couldn’t think of what to do that wasn’t already being done and then one day I was in my kitchen filling up my dog’s water bowl and their water mat read “stay pawsitive” on it and it just clicked. I knew at that moment I was going to create a business using pawsitive in it and create things for crazy dog moms like myself. I started by doing some research and got my first delivery of dog bandannas a few days later and immediately started to create. It’s funny to me that it all started from a water mat I had bought at Home Goods but I wouldn’t change it for the world.
Taylor, before we move on to more of these sorts of questions, can you take some time to bring our readers up to speed on you and what you do?
My name is Taylor, I am the owner, operator, and creative coordinator for Pawsitivity Designs. I created my business for my love and passion for dogs and wanting to have an outlet to help rescue animals while also having an opportunity to be creative. I design and make dog bandanas, custom decals, pet portrait apparel, totes, and much more. My favorite reaction from customers and patrons is when they say “You can put my dog’s face on that?” I would sum up Pawsitivity as a one-stop shop for all things dogs and dog lovers. I also plan and host fun dog events in my area to help raise money and awareness for local rescue shelters. I am most proud of where I have taken Pawsitivity. Never in a million years would I have imagined planning events at local breweries and getting to help dogs get adopted and help raise money for the shelters. Every month I take a portion of the proceeds and donate to a shelter, so every order helps animals in shelters!
Any insights you can share with us about how you built up your social media presence?
Interacting and creating relationships. Find your market and your people, once you’ve got that down interact and start a conversation with those people. I find the most genuine people through Pawsitivity’s Instagram and love hearing their stories. Also, staying up to date on trends and understanding each platform and how they work differently is very important!
What do you think helped you build your reputation within your market?
Definitely getting out there and attending vendor markets and fairs. Meeting people in person is so important for growth and being able to showcase everything I can make has helped this business and its reputation grow so much. Talking and interacting with people and their dogs and just getting to know them and their stories have helped me create a positive and friendly reputation.
