We were lucky to catch up with Tara Williams recently and have shared our conversation below.
Alright, Tara thanks for taking the time to share your stories and insights with us today. What was it like going from idea to execution? Can you share some of the backstory and some of the major steps or milestones?
Absolutely, my name is Tara Williams, and I am the owner, creator and operator of Creole Sisters Catering. I started my business in 2016 with the mission of spreading creole cuisine around the world. Dishes and recipes I learned from a young age cooking with my late mother. There have been many obstacles on the road from idea to execution such as lack of capital due too little to no access to small business funds. However, we are still executing and hitting new milestones every day. In 2016 we were featured on an episode of the Harry Connick Jr. show where we won a competition for best crawfish and sausage pasta. All of this has led us to recently launching our own website where we sell several of our products customers can prepare and enjoy at home such as jambalaya, dirty rice and creole red beans.

As always, we appreciate you sharing your insights and we’ve got a few more questions for you, but before we get to all of that can you take a minute to introduce yourself and give our readers some of your background and context?
Well, my name is Chef Tara Williams. I was born and raised in New Orleans Louisiana. Growing up I learned to cook from my mother who was an amazing cook. We would cook for guest; it was how we entertained and showed love in our community. It was my mother’s dream to own her own cafe, but it never happened for her. My mother passed away in 2014 before ever getting to see her dream realized. It then became my mission to preserve and share our authentic creole dishes with the world.
How’d you think through whether to sell directly on your own site or through a platform like Amazon, Etsy, Cratejoy, etc.
We chose Shopify as our platform because it is extremely easy to navigate for customers and myself. The site also allows for many forms of payment such as apple pay which makes it practical for those customers who find us on a whim since we advertise a lot on social media.

We’d love to hear the story of how you built up your social media audience?
We have built our social media presence over the years by being consistent. I am constantly posting any products or services I am offering. I share my customers reviews on my page daily to make sure we are increasing those engagements with our customers and future customers.
