We’re excited to introduce you to the always interesting and insightful Tyneza Mitchell. We hope you’ll enjoy our conversation with Tyneza below.
Tyneza, appreciate you joining us today. Setting up an independent practice is a daunting endeavor. Can you talk to us about what it was like for you – what were some of the main steps, challenges, etc.
Tyneza Mitchell is a family nurse practitioner who specializes in family care. She has over 12 years of experience in the nursing profession. She completed her Bachelor of Arts and Science in Biology from Prairie View A&M University in Prairie View, Texas. She earned her Bachelor of Science in Nursing at Shepherd University in Shepherdstown, West Virginia. Mrs. Mitchell then went on to obtain a Master of Science in Nursing degree from the University of Cincinnati in Cincinnati, Ohio. She holds a national certification and is a member of the American Association of Nurse Practitioners (AANP). Mrs. Mitchell is a devoted wife to her husband Spencer and mother to her daughter Sa’ryi. She currently serves as a mentor to nurse practitioner students in Houston, Texas, and commits her time to help others advance in their careers. Mrs. Mitchell is currently providing healthcare services to members of her community, including the underserved population. She currently resides and lives in the Klein ISD school district.
As a Klein ISD graduate from Klein Forest High School class of 2000, I have always felt proud to be a graduate from a school district that is highly recognized in the Houston and surrounding areas as one of the top school districts. The quality of education and support I received from the district, teachers, and staff made me feel like I belonged and that I was not just another student on the school rooster. My parents moved to the district in the early 1970s with hopes of raising their family and providing their children with a great education in a safe emerging community in northwest Houston. Over the years I have personally seen the district grow and evolve. Klein ISD is culturally diverse, they are committed to their platform to engage their students to aim high and pursue their dreams, and they do a lot of community outreach to stand behind their vision to Promise and Promote.
Opening a family practice clinic close to home, in my community and within Klein ISD meant that I would be able to give back by providing healthcare and reaching thousands of individuals and businesses in need of affordable and quality care. I have always wanted to own and operate my own clinic and doing so close to home made sense. My husband and I have a daughter currently enrolled in Klein ISD in the 1st grade and being more accessible to her and available to assist throughout her journey learning and future involvement in campus activities and programs played a major factor in deciding the location of my practice.. My husband Spencer has been my biggest fan and supporter of my endeavors and dreams of making this clinic a reality and success. The Covid-19 pandemic brought upon many challenges and obstacles that so many households, families, individuals, and businesses were faced with including us. We continued to pursue and overcome challenges even when faced with uncertainty. Today our doors are open as of January 2021 and we are proud to serve our community with their healthcare needs. Comprehensive Care Clinic is woman owned and operated by minority women who all share in the value of helping others and making your healthcare our priority.
One thing I would like to encourage others thinking about opening a private healthcare practice is to plan and have a business model setup. Don’t be afraid to ask for help and consult with other professionals who have knowledge and talents in areas they may not be your strongest. My biggest take away from this journey that I’ve been on as the owner and sole provider of Comprehensive Care Clinic is to have faith that things will work out and deliver the best quality care possible to make a difference in the lives of others.

Tyneza, love having you share your insights with us. Before we ask you more questions, maybe you can take a moment to introduce yourself to our readers who might have missed our earlier conversations?

Any advice for growing your clientele? What’s been most effective for you?
Team work and building relationships is a key factor in growing your business and clientele. When your providing a service and delivering great customer service and care that speaks volumes. People want to go to places who have great reviews or they’ve been referred by someone who had a great experience.

We’d love to hear a story of resilience from your journey.
When I set out on this journey in the summer of 2019 to open my own family practice clinic I had the idea and mindset that this is something I wanted to do. Having worked as a Nurse Practitioner in an outpatient practice I gained a lot of insight and skills on how to run the day to day affairs within the clinic.
I called my husband and shared with him that I wanted to open my own clinic and right away he was onboard and supportive from the beginning. He had knowledge and experience in the business world and was able to guide me and put together the resources I needed to help accomplish our goal. We were connected to a practice consultant with expertise in owning, starting and managing as it relates to healthcare and practices.
We set goals, created a business plan, formulated our ideas to bring what was a thought into an actual medical practice owned and operated by a Family Nurse Practitioner.
Fast-forward to March 2020 while we were still planning, building, renovating and preparing we found ourselves in the midst of a Pandemic-Covid 19 and this put a halt on everything. Millions of lives across the world were affected and lost, shortages on goods and supplies, effects on our economy impacted me as well.
Resilience and overcoming obstacles has helped me to stay focused and having faith that things will work out and they did.
In January 2021 we were successfully able to open our doors safely in the midst of the pandemic. We created employment and job security for our staff, we partnered with local communities to provide covid testing and reach those in areas with the greatest need for testing, and provided affordable and accessible healthcare and office visits to to the uninsured.
My husband, family, friends and the staff at Comprehensive Care Clinic have been supportive, encouraging, and by my side from the beginning until now. It goes without saying how appreciative, blessed and thankful I am to have caring and loving individuals that stand with me during this journey.
