Matt , thanks for taking the time to share your stories with us today We’d love to start by getting your thoughts on what you are seeing as some the biggest trends emerging in your industry
I suppose, the most notable trend in mobile application development is the growing use of artificial intelligence.
Modern mobile phones have great computing power, meaning they can process large amounts of data, which allows to use AI for daily tasks. Now developers can create simple, intuitive apps for users. Before, such solutions were incredibly difficult to program and use, as their logic was different from human logic.
The iScanner app, for instance, uses some AI algorithms. One of them defines the boundaries of documents. To implement this function, we trained the neural network using a lot of examples. We needed the algorithm to “understand” what to consider a border and which document borders it should use to make a scan.
Similar algorithms have already been implemented in many products and areas, but the trend of using such approaches and rethinking old solutions is far from faded. I’m sure that we’ll soon see AI technologies in all spheres of life.
Matt , before we move on to more of these sorts of questions, can you take some time to bring our readers up to speed on you and what you do?
Hi everyone! My name is Matt Svetlak, I am the VP of product at BP Mobile (AIBY Group). I work on iScanner, #1 document scanning app in the US. We use in-house AI solutions and mobile-first approach to allow everyone to create PRO documents on mobile phones with ease.
I started my IT career as a mobile app tester. I have always wanted to help create high-quality, reliable, problem-solving tools for users. With such a mindset, even as a tester, I put forward a lot of ideas on how to improve the projects I was working on. It wasn’t in my job description, but it was fun and important. When the company had created an opening for the position of a Product Manager, I decided to take this opportunity. I felt that I was most interested in improving product quality in a broad sense. Over my years as a Product Manager, I have worked on several apps, but iScanner has always been and is the main one.
Under my management, iScanner became the #1 scanning app and one of the most successful B2C apps in the business category.
Our success has inspired many mobile app developers, resulting in incredibly high competition in the niche. Plus, we constantly deal with other competitor apps copying iScanner functionality. To stay at the forefront of scanning apps, we use our own technologies. They allow us to offer more opportunities to users than our competitors. For example, we have recently implemented our own algorithm for correcting distortions in scanned documents.
Developing in-house technologies is hard, but it gives our product a competitive edge in the long run.

Fostering brand loyalty is impossible unless you maintain the high quality of the product and competitive prices, listen to your customers’ needs, and keep developing.
Another important point, which is sometimes forgotten, is to tell customers about what you do and how you develop the product. Otherwise, after a long relationship, they may shift their focus to some minor shortcomings, taking your advantages for granted.
We have learned from our own experience that it is important to tell users about how we develop the product and help solve their problems. This allows us to make the “novelty” in the relationship with the user last. At the same time, this makes the users understand that if something is not working perfectly now, we will fix it and adapt to new requirements.
This is essential for all digital products where there is no direct face-to-face communication with the customer. We strive to show that we don’t just exchange our services for a subscription once and forget about our users. Instead, we work for them all the time.
Any stories or insights that might help us understand how you’ve built such a strong reputation?
The good reputation of our product is built upon systematic and stable work. We analyze feedback from users, create and test hypotheses to improve the product. Thanks to this, we’ve remained at the top of a highly competitive market for many years.
It is important for us to keep learning, improving, and looking for opportunities that appear due to new technologies. We would never have become leaders if we just copied our competitors. Naturally, we also monitor the market and our competitors, but if you focus too much on rivals, it will be difficult to become the one who leads the way and sets trends.
