We were lucky to catch up with Alexa Green recently and have shared our conversation below.

Alexa , thanks for joining us, excited to have you contributing your stories and insights. Almost every entrepreneur we know has considered donating a portion of their sales to an organization or cause – how did you make the decision of whether to donate? We’d love to hear the backstory if you’re open to sharing the details.

We are very passionate about the youth and our scholarship fund is one way we give back to the community. To qualify for the scholarship, the student has to be a high school senior with a 2.5 GPA and they have to show proof of enrollment. We provide an essay prompt and we decide based on the best essay. We normally release a new prompt in January.

Great, appreciate you sharing that with us. Before we ask you to share more of your insights, can you take a moment to introduce yourself and how you got to where you are today to our readers

My name is Alexa Green, I co-own and operate Eleven03 with one of my best friends. I like to read and workout in my free time and I am married to the most amazing man in the world!

I have always desired a place to shop where I felt comfortable and I could be myself. I never found a space like this so Aaliyah & I created one.

Eleven03 is a boutique for the everyday woman. Our story started when we, Aaliyah and Alexa first met in college as random roommates. As best friends that are as close as sisters, we began dreaming of a business that could celebrate diversity and provide beautiful clothing for women of all shapes and sizes while giving back to the community. Today, we are proud to offer a handpicked selection of the best and most flattering pieces for our clients. We strive to empower every woman that wears our apparel.

I am most proud of the community we have built and our ability to make every woman that walks through our doors feel amazing. Our customers are our family, we know their birthdays and we know the sports their children play. It’s always great to see them walk through the door.

I want people to know that we love what we do and we take it very seriously. We have our customers in mind with every aspect of our business whether we’re selecting new merchandise, changing the layout of the store, or creating content. We pay attention to all of the details, all of the comments and we use this to create a better experience in-store and online.

How’d you meet your business partner?

I met my bestfriend/business partner at Mississippi State University, we were random roommates our sophomore year.

Believe it or not, it was not love at first sight but next year we will celebrate 10-years of friendship and 3-years of business. Aaliyah is my sister, her mom is my mom and my mom is hers. Our husbands are good friends, too!

Have you ever had to pivot?

I was working as an engineer in the transportation industry; one day I was headed to work and I just burst into tears, I was so unhappy. I went home to my fiance and I said “This is it. I will not do another peak season at this company.” I called Aaliyah and I said “We have work to do.” We spent countless hours learning, planning, investing, and saving. We opened our first brick and mortar location 10-months later and we have been enjoying this rollercoaster ride ever since.
