Alright – so today we’ve got the honor of introducing you to RGN Raf. We think you’ll enjoy our conversation, we’ve shared it below.
RGN, thanks for taking the time to share your stories with us today Do you wish you had started sooner?
Sometimes, I say to myself, I wish I started earlier. Other times, I believe I’m on the right path because these things can’t be rushed no matter when your starting point is. You have to let everything organically gel. I always would say I was a creative. Exposed to the arts from young and got attached to it without really pressing on it. The first time I ever made a song was with my boy Jiggwe Supersounds and it was in my closet with a make shift mic and soundproofing set up. We got a little lit and proceeded to make some music in the spur of the moment. He always knew I could rap and he was always a producer so we did that. The song might still be on SoundCloud, but it was one of my best ever moments. I just felt a thrill I never felt before. The next significant exposure I got was when I hopped in the studio with my other boy LilRamboJYB. He was the main artist in the session and I was just taking in the atmosphere with my other guys who was in the studio too. A freestyle here and there again, and people persuaded me to give it a shot. However, I never really had the willingness cause it’s kinda crazy putting a body of work out there for people to judge freely on. That was the big step I had to get over. Once I said screw it and started making it work for real, there was no turning back. Sometimes I hope I made that conscious decision earlier, but I’m also glad with the process so far. Just looking ahead to see what the future holds

RGN, love having you share your insights with us. Before we ask you more questions, maybe you can take a moment to introduce yourself to our readers who might have missed our earlier conversations?
I go by RGN Raf, part of music group RGN. I’m an artist / songwriter / singer. I would say there wasn’t really a specific way I got into the arts but just significant moments that pushed me more to pursue it. I believe I was always immersed in it. Listening and lip syncing to all my favorite songs from the 60’s till date, cutting across all genres, thanks to family and friends who had such a wide taste in music, it was just something I always enjoyed. Especially for fun. Then I decided I might just take it on and make some of my own. Be able to express my ideas and creativity my own way. Not like any other. The sound and the swag portrayed in my music and in the group’s music is something definitely to look out for. Reaching across a wide range of genres and bringing everything back home. Different yes, familiar, also yes, but with a touch of very enjoyable and immense replay value. Drawing inspiration from so many angles like New York culture, to my idols like Pac, Dre, Lil Wayne, Drake, R&B legends that I don’t want to start listing cause the list would go on forever, Afro beats, and pop. All of those emotions blended across our sound, across my sound. Definitely worth looking out for!
For you, what’s the most rewarding aspect of being a creative?
My most rewarding aspect of being an artist is just seeing people love my work genuinely. I had a show recently, performed two unreleased songs and had the crowd singing along to both, and dancing. That feeling of accomplishment and satisfaction is really my driving force. I love performing.

Looking back, are there any resources you wish you knew about earlier in your creative journey?
I just really wish I understood the marketing part of the game a lot sooner. Would’ve definitely helped me shape the way I approached the game from an earlier onset. No regrets however, grateful for where I currently am and I do strive to understand music the business side better each and every day
