We recently connected with Kyle Creamer and have shared our conversation below.
Kyle , thanks for joining us, excited to have you contributing your stories and insights. Let’s kick things off with your mission – what is it and what’s the story behind why it’s your mission?
Radio SoBro exists to promote the original music created by Nashville’s singer-songwriter community. It is estimated that nearly 1k songs a DAY are written in Nashville, yet when you listen to terrestrial radio you hear the same 75-100 on repeat. We created an all-streaming, app-based platform that curates playlists of all new, original Nashville-based music for the world to hear. We are currently playing the music of over 1 thousand local songwriters, and we are just getting started.

Kyle , love having you share your insights with us. Before we ask you more questions, maybe you can take a moment to introduce yourself to our readers who might have missed our earlier conversations?
I grew up the son of a radio lifer. My dad dropped out of school in the 8th grade to be a disc jokey at a local radio station, and he has been in the radio industry for over 50 years. When I moved to Nashville, dad came up to visit and we were blown away at the amount of talent Nashville’s songwriter community boasts, and we were surprised at how little they are given the opportunity to hear what they write on the radio. This challenged us to create a space for that, and we created Radio SoBro.
We operate as a traditional radio station would with disc jokeys, weather reports, who’s playing where around town tonight, and the background to songs with more information about the songwriters who wrote them. We believe Radio SoBro pays homage to what radio used to be, and we do that by exclusively featuring the original music written in Nashville, TN and stream it to the world on our FREE app or online at radiosobro.com.
Nashville is a hot spot for tourists, and many of them come to town unaware of the true essence of the music scene in Nashville. It is far more diverse than the honky tonk scene on Broadway, and Radio SoBro gives music lovers all over the world access to new original music 24/7.
We curate the playlists in a commercial-free format thanks to our presenting sponsors (Truist Bank, MoonPie, Kroger, and more).

How did you put together the initial capital you needed to start your business?
Radio SoBro’s funding motto was originally: how can we get this thing off the ground without going into extreme debt? So, my co-founder and I decided on an amount that we could pay into the company each month to help with operating expenses, and we did that for the first 2 years of our existence. This was critical, as it kept our business debt-free and it allowed us to build our platform without clouding the station with random advertisements or commercials to keep the integrity of our content at a premium. Since then, we have partnered with Nashville and/or music-minded businesses that understand our mission of supporting original Nashville music, and we have been able to create a viable product with tremendous upside. It was challenging to not “sell out” to advertisers just for the sake of money/income, but we stuck with it and it has paid off.
Can you talk to us about manufacturing? How’d you figure it all out? We’d love to hear the story.
We partnered with a wonderful app development company right out of the gate. They had several brainstorming sessions with us about what we wanted this station to be. They helped us come up with everything from naming our business, creating logos, being compliant legally, as well as setting up our website and stream. We were fully prepared to create an self-standing app, but this company helped us initial find a white labeling company that created our first platform for a fraction of the cost. This helped us with proof of concept, and since then we have been able to operate debt free, updating our platform as time goes on. This was critical, and it is solid advice to any entrepreneur out there: don’t reinvent the wheel. Find what is out there that can work for you for a fraction of the cost and time.
