Alright – so today we’ve got the honor of introducing you to Aimee Hines. We think you’ll enjoy our conversation, we’ve shared it below.
Aimee, appreciate you joining us today. Do you wish you had started sooner?
Professionally I’ve been a Physical & Occupational Therapist for about 15 years. I have always had a love of art and implemented it through cooking, baking, drawing, painting etc. My artistic skills have been used throughout my life including teaching myself concepts during my education. I drew concepts and visualized things to commit them to memory. However, I never thought to pursue art interests as a business until later in life. I was always a good student, and was steered toward pursuit of the sciences.
Thriving social media is now available, something that wasn’t flourishing when I was a teen. Social media & the internet opened a lot of doors for people. Platforms such as Facebook were still in its infancy around the time I was completing college.
What I would have loved to have done earlier in life was to further explore my artistic growth. (Whether through additional classes or more extracurricular activities to enhance those skills). I do appreciate my choice of healthcare career as it provided an opportunity to express my creativity in a different way.

Aimee, before we move on to more of these sorts of questions, can you take some time to bring our readers up to speed on you and what you do?
I have multiple components to my creative business(es). Cake Doctor Aimee is the umbrella for my confections business. Cake Doctor was a nickname given to me by my siblings when I began decorating cakes while in school. I most recently divided into other entities as my interests grew. Vanilla Orchid Studio, Vanilla Orchid Paperie, Vanilla Orchid Boards and Vanilla Orchid Academy are the 4 entities. I am a sugar artist, savory food artist and modern artist. (In other words I cook, bake, teach and create art)
I complete recipe development but also complete services for clients as a decorator of cakes, cookies/confections, and charcuterie boards . In my modern art component I create modern & digital artwork (calligraphy, prints/patterns, printables etc).
I am most proud of embracing a creative outlet. This creativity also services others through celebrations, events, milestones or hobby/ interests. I have some upcoming projects releasing, including a cookbook. I hope that will bring families and couples together with food.
What do you think is the goal or mission that drives your creative journey?
My goal would is to complete my book, and run a successful food & home entertaining blog. I would love to have a creative studio dedicated to food and modern art.

For you, what’s the most rewarding aspect of being a creative?
Freedom of expression is what I love most about being in the arts.
