We recently connected with Rickey Chavez and have shared our conversation below.
Rickey, thanks for taking the time to share your stories with us today Do you take vacations? Why or why not?
On average we go on 5 or 6 vacations or excursions like we also call it a year

As always, we appreciate you sharing your insights and we’ve got a few more questions for you, but before we get to all of that can you take a minute to introduce yourself and give our readers some of your back background and context?
My name is Rickey Chavez, I am the Team Lead for The Rickey Chavez team at Better Homes & Gardens Gary Greene located in Houston and the surrounding area. I’ve been in the real estate industry for a little over five years and I have had the great opportunity to meet and serve so many unbelievable people. In the beginning after I received my real estate license, I helped a Realtor market her business for about 16 months. This allowed me the opportunity to go out and meet the communities and learn about serving others in Real Estate. In May of 2020 the agent that I helped with the market decided to go into management with our Brokerage Better Homes & Gardens Gary Greene so I started helping clients sell and buy homes. For the first two years as an individual Realtor, I was able to help over 60 families realize the ultimate dream of homeownership as well as help them List and sell their houses. I felt this opportunity was so important as I was doing my best to relieve the stress of their transition of selling their home and buying another or the stress of first time home ownership, that I decided to put together a team of likeminded agents that wanted to serve others. The Rickey Chavez Team has been together a little over 18 months and this short time we have served over 140 families various Real Estate needs. We have served our client families with buying their first home, selling a house and buying their new home, we have helped them navigate the New Construction market and even lease their houses. We are active in the commercial market helping our clients with investments. Having spent over 15 years in Corporate America in Human Resources I am very sensitive of transferees and their families experience when relocating, we do an unbelievable job in this area also. With the support of the Team, we also have had the opportunity to become very involved in our community which is very important to our core values and motto “Still Serving”. We have sponsored teachers by helping them buy their school supplies, Backpack Drives help kids who cannot afford backpacks. We sponsor a baseball team in the Langham Creek YMCA -Miracle League. A league that caters to helping all children with disabilities and their families experience the enjoyment of playing baseball on a team and in a league (Everyone should investigate this). I believe there are 18 teams, and some are still looking for sponsorship.
I retired from the army in 2002 and being retired Military (Army) and a disabled Vet, it is very important that I help Veterans with their transition from Active Duty to the civilian sector, so I am a Mentor with the Combined Arms center. With the Combined Arms center they have assigned us mentees which we reach out to and make ourselves available to them whenever they need. I am also involved in the veteran’s felony and misdemeanor courts. Here we make ourselves available to the mentees that have had some challenges as they have left the military and the structured environment that they once knew. After I retired from the army, I went into Corporate America working in the human resource profession. I went back to school, received a BA and MBA with a concentration in Human Resources and worked in various human resource and contract relations roles. I still have a lot of contacts in human resources and staffing, so I try and help people find jobs when they reach out to me. You see it’s all about serving others and helping them. Real Estate has allowed me the ability to continue to serve in all areas. I believe and everyone should get involved in their community and give back.
I approach my relationship with my clients in a very relaxing mode. We can move as fast or slow as they want without any pressure but with an unbelievable amount of support because we realize that this is one of the most stressful times in a person’s life. Buying or selling a home is stressful enough and then transferring to or from Houston on top of that, it can take stress to another level. Here at The Ricky Chavez Team, we pride ourselves on minimizing stress as best we can to allow for a smooth and stress-free home buying and selling experience, negotiating the best price and providing superior communication throughout the process.
Any stories or insights that might help us understand how you’ve built such a strong reputation?
The “Still Serving” mind set has helped build my reputation. We want to be the solution for a family when they reach out to us. “Still serving” are not just words, they are our actions, we have done everything you could think of morally ethically and with integrity to help families in their time of need whether it be selling their homes finding a job or just acclimating to a new environment. I am very fortunate to have a sphere of unbelievable people that think like I do and want to help others so when somebody reaches out to me or our team, we try to Help them with finding a resource to provide a solution to their opportunity. I have been told this is why we are different “We Serve”.f
How do you keep in touch with clients and foster brand loyalty?
We do a lot on social media keeping everybody informed on what’s going on in the market, and we have client events. A really cool event we had around November was Christmas pictures with the Grinch. We sponsored this so our clients and friends could take pictures with the Grinch for their Christmas cards. It was pretty cool to have so many people show up.
