We were lucky to catch up with Anjali Nair recently and have shared our conversation below.
Alright, Anjali thanks for taking the time to share your stories and insights with us today. Can you tell us about a time where you or your team really helped a customer get an amazing result?

Great, appreciate you sharing that with us. Before we ask you to share more of your insights, can you take a moment to introduce yourself and how you got to where you are today to our readers
Imagine moving to a new country as a young adult for the first time without the backing of any family, friends and starting life all over again without a blueprint. Over 1 million immigrants arrive to the United States every year and it takes them several years to feel ‘settled’ and acclimated to the people, processes and culture. The Immigrant Academy was born out of necessity as a mentoring and skill development platform for immigrants in North America. Our mission is to connect immigrants with career mentors, professional experts and learning modules that makes it possible for them to achieve their #AmericanDream
Within the first 2 years of launching TIA has supported over 1000 immigrants to restart their career, communicate with locals and acclimatize with American culture. We did this organically by creating educational content, courses and mentoring programs. Our biggest win is building an Immigrant community of over 17k people and getting messages like ‘I wish TIA platform existed when I newly moved to the States’. It’s reassuring to hear we’re positively impacting our Immigrant community.
We are proud to build solutions for immigrants from different life stages. 1. Onboarding course for newcomers in USA 2. Job readiness mentoring program to enter Corporate America 3. Masterclasses from professional experts to integrate with American way of living.
What’s a lesson you had to unlearn and what’s the backstory?
As a South Asian immigrant woman in a new country, with new people and new culture -I had to unlearn many things and start feeling confident with life’s new lessons.
I learned that investing in my personal and professional growth is an investment and not an expense.
I learned that asking for help when you need it doesn’t make you any less.
I learned to reciprocate with a smile and greeting
I learned to drive to feel independent
I learned that its okay to take a break
I learned that making friends as an adult is tough, tougher in a new country
I learned that corriander leaves = cilantro
I learned that my opinion and voice matters
If your learning was the same as mine, we should connect! #immigrants #eastmeetswest

We’d love to hear a story of resilience from your journey.
As a new immigrant jobseeker, I was looking to enter Corporate America as a Marketer. I was armed with an MBA and a couple of years of experience in Sales and Marketing ready for the next challenge. My confidence was broken with +247 job rejections. Other Immigrants advised me to change my field. Why? Because apparently immigrants don’t stand a chance in fields other than IT or Medicine. But this was not about a job it was about my career! I refused to take up a job in a field that made me unhappy and complain about working. I took up an hourly paying job to maintain my sanctity, worked part-time with a solopreneur and continuously kept applying for entry-level marketing jobs. After 8 months of determination, rejections and breakdown I finally landed a Marketing role at a start up. I was on cloud 9 because I didn’t give up and believed that its time to change the narrative.
Today, I mentor hundreds of Immigrants from Finance, HR, Marketing, Life sciences, Tech to start their careers in their field! @theimmigrantacademy we are on a mission to get 10k immigrants back to workforce.
