We recently connected with Jaimie Reeves and have shared our conversation below.
As always, we appreciate you sharing your insights and we’ve got a few more questions for you, but before we get to all of that can you take a minute to introduce yourself and give our readers some of your back background and context?
I write personal and commercial insurance policies such as, home, auto, work comp, commercial auto, and business owners’ policies. I got into this business 25 years ago when I went to work for a State Farm agent with no prior experience in the insurance industry. I started out as a sale representative, and it didn’t take long before I was the top producing agent in the office. I loved working in insurance from the very beginning. I love being able to help people before the unexpected happens. I hate seeing bad things happen to people, but it is so fulfilling when you see them put back into the position they were before the loss, and knowing you helped set them up with the right coverage to protect their greatest assets. I think what sets me apart is my knowledge. I have years of experience working in commercial claims which has allowed me to understand the risk my clients may face as a business owner. What I love most is being an advisor to our clients. When working with business owners, each industry has it’s own unique set of risks. I work one-on-one with business owners, evaluate their risk, and provide them with insurance options to help protect their businesses from potential claims or lawsuits. Giving my clients peace of mind is the most important part of what I do. I want them to feel confident that they have the right coverage to protect their assets. I help people protect themselves now, so if anything should ever happen, they have the right coverage and protection when they need it most.
Where do you think you get most of your clients from?
My best source of clients is through referral partners. I work with several other agents that either don’t sell the same type of insurance as I do, or they don’t have the same carriers as I do. It works out well not only for me but for anyone who reaches out to me. I don’t sell life and health insurance, and I can’t write through captive carriers like GEICO and State Farm. So, if it doesn’t work out with my carriers, I refer it out to them, and they do the same for me. The captive agents are really limited on the type of client they can work with whereas I have a larger range because I work with several carriers. I also have referral partners with people that work with the same type of clients as I do such as, commercial real estate agents, payroll companies, commercial lenders, and business brokers. The best part is I know my referral partners will take good care of my clients. My clients get better service through my referral partners than they would elsewhere because of my relationship with these referral partners. My referral partners also trust that I will take excellent care of anyone they send to me as well. Building these relationships has really helped me grow my business.
What do you think helped you build your reputation within your market?
I think what has really helped me build my reputation within my market is my knowledge. I specialize in commercial insurance and have worked in litigated and pre-litigated commercial claims for several years prior to opening my agency. This has given me a great understanding of the different types of risk my clients face as business owners. Each industry has its own unique set of risks. I have seen it all, so I am able to be a trusted advisor to my clients. In addition, I understand how contracts can affect their policy and coverage. When we are doing a risk analysis, I also review the contracts they have in place with their landlord or contractors. It is so important to have the specific language that is in the contract match up with the policy language. If they do not, they could end up either having their claim get denied or end up having to pay back money that was paid out by the insurance company. It can be complicated, and it is so important to have someone who understands how the coverage is applied in the event of a claim. I also help my clients mitigate their risk by small things they can do as a business owner to protect them in the event of a claim or lawsuit.
