We were lucky to catch up with Daria Morrison recently and have shared our conversation below.
Daria, thanks for joining us, excited to have you contributing your stories and insights. How do you feel about asking friends and family to support your business? What’s appropriate, what’s not? Where do you draw the line?
I don’t mean for this to sound negative/sad, but I never really ”ask” anyone to support me. However, I do have family members book appointments from time to time! I have a nice handful of childhood friends that also support me frequently! I’ve never been one to get caught up on who does/doesn’t support me. Plus, there are many ways of showing support! So I wouldn’t really know who has or hasn’t! I just always make sure I’m doing what I have to do, as if no one is. I’m very grateful, because it motivates me to keep going, either way!

Daria, love having you share your insights with us. Before we ask you more questions, maybe you can take a moment to introduce yourself to our readers who might have missed our earlier conversations?
My name is Daria. I am the proud owner of The Relaxation Station in Kansas City, MO! I got in the industry by, first, making my own body butters, body scrubs, soaps, etc. Customers started asking me about treatments for specific skin types, and I honestly had no clue on how to treat them or what ingredients to use to help them. I remember talking to my sister about it, and she encouraged me to pursue a career as an esthetician! Shortly after our convo, I enrolled in esthetic school! I graduated and passed my state boards test. A few months after, I applied for my first job in the beauty industry. I worked at wax chain for four months, quit, and then began my own business, November 2, 2020: The Relaxation Station!
I currently offer full body waxing, facial services, and just recently, began creating body scrubs again!
I’m all about skin! I don’t stop at just the face or focus on just removing hair from your body. I focus on and want help heal, protect, and treat my clients from head to toe! I believe that’s one thing that sets me apart from others!
One thing I am most proud of is my connectivity with every person that walks in my suite! I’m naturally an outgoing individual, and I aim to make sure that everyone is walking into a judge-free and R E L A X E D environment!
Can you open up about how you funded your business?
When I launched my business, I only provided full body waxing. I purchased all of the essentials I needed to carry out those services. The money I used was actually my cash tips I had been saving up from the wax chain I worked at prior to the start of my business!

Learning and unlearning are both critical parts of growth – can you share a story of a time when you had to unlearn a lesson?
There’s a saying, “The customer is always right!” WRONG! This is something that I had to unlearn QUICKLY, especially for the sake of longevity! There were several instances were potential clients wanted to operate outside of what my policies and procedures are. Regardless of how they felt, I stood my ground out of respect for my business! If someone can’t respect my business, they’re not a client worth having.
