Alright – so today we’ve got the honor of introducing you to Stephen Taylor. We think you’ll enjoy our conversation, we’ve shared it below.
Stephen, looking forward to hearing all of your stories today. So let’s jump to your mission – what’s the backstory behind how you developed the mission that drives your brand?
I moved to KC almost 7 years ago from Louisiana. I had no friends, a job I hated, and a small smelly apartment. I started doing comedy in the KC scene and found a community of hilarious and diverse people willing to accept an outsider. Ive built my life around that community these past few years and it’s been an incredibly rewarding experience

Awesome – so before we get into the rest of our questions, can you briefly introduce yourself to our readers.
I co-founded Barrel of the Bottoms 4 years ago with a team of friends. We wanted to create a place that would help the comedy community grow and prosper. We set up a studio for podcasting, a co-writing space, and an incredibly intimate venue that lends itself to the wildest and weirdest shows. It continues to hold some of my most core memories in KC

What’s been the most effective strategy for growing your clientele?
We continue to provide high quality entertainment and experiences for extremely cheap prices. People leave knowing they got their moneys worth and that word of mouth has kept us open and created a true community of fans
Have you ever had to pivot?
During the pandemic, I was going crazy along with everyone else I knew. We moved to livestream events and then, because our space was so confined, we started producing shows at other venues with outdoor spaces. This lead us to make more connections and gave us the ability to host bigger shows. That network has helped as we’ve partnered with the Fountain City Comedy Festival to bring 50+ comedians to the city for a weekend in October
