We recently connected with Cambria Dickerson and have shared our conversation below.
Cambria, thanks for taking the time to share your stories with us today. We’d love to hear the backstory behind a risk you’ve taken – whether big or small, walk us through what it was like and how it ultimately turned out.
The biggest risk I’ve ever taken was when I decided to relocate to Arizona from California without knowing where I’d live or really how it would all work out. All I knew was that I was accepted into a Western Herbalism course at the Southwest Institute of Healing Arts, (a dream of mine!) and that I had a second interview set up with a prospective employer. That’s it. And apparently, it was enough for me to pack up my three suitcases and make my way to a new state with a new opportunity!
Long story short, I’d previously relocated to Los Angeles from my hometown Birmingham, Alabama at the beginning of 2021. I’d decided to move in the middle of the pandemic simply because I felt like it was time to branch out and experience life outside of my comfort zone. It was more difficult getting settled out there than I thought it would be and I faced unforeseen obstacles with my living situation. When I finally did get a place, I received a “VACATE FOR RENOVATION” email from the leasing management within two months stating that remodeling for my unit would be happening in 90 days. I took that as a sign that maybe California wasn’t for me at the time and started to make plans to either move back home or to another state. I prayed for a sign and was shown Arizona! I’d only visited a few times in the summer of 2021 but I loved the vibes and thought it was such a hidden gem. I remembered that there was a healing arts school that I was once interested in and took the steps to apply for my herbalism course! As that started to align, I got on to apartment and job searches and was luckily able to set up interviews as a public relations specialist. I’d been accepted into school but hadn’t quite figured out my job security or where I’d stay. Yikes. But I was determined.
With full faith in God, at the end of September, I packed my bags and purchased a one-way flight to Arizona, and reserved an Air BnB for the first week. It was all I could afford and the time and just took that leap of faith that God would see me through this shift. And He did. By end of my Air BnB stay, I was approved for my apartment and moved in that very next day! The next week, I was hired as a salaried Communications Specialist for BLM Phoenix Metro! I believed it would happen and I’m truly grateful for the blessings and redirection I received to an even bigger and brighter future in Arizona.
As always, we appreciate you sharing your insights and we’ve got a few more questions for you, but before we get to all of that can you take a minute to introduce yourself and give our readers some of your background and context?
I’m Cambria ” Cam” Dickerson and I’m a Herbalist & Public Relations specialist. I got into the idea of natural healing when I began my spiritual journey in 2017. I understood that most medicines only work to alleviate the symptoms and not the actual illness/ailment and wanted to learn how to provide support to healing holistically (in a way that treats the whole person, taking into account mental and social factors, rather than just the symptoms of a disease). I started to research to learn about the power of plants and how they can cure and/or support every bodily issue known to mankind!
I’m currently studying Western Herbalism at the Southwest Institute of Healing Arts. Prior to being enrolled at SWIHA, I studied herbalism on my own and even worked at an herbal store for more hands-on knowledge. I also have a Bachelor’s degree in Public Relations and enjoy connecting with others to form partnerships that serve all parties involved.
My current entrepreneurship endeavor is my mobile apothecary and clinical business that I’m currently building out, Luv’s Remedy. Luv’s Remedy will carry medicine for the healing of the mind, body, and soul. No part of your existence will be left out of your all-inclusive journey to wellness. Tea blends, salves, capsules, chapsticks, tonics, and decoctions are a few of the products that are offered. Luv heals all wounds but herbs help too!
Are there any books, videos or other content that you feel have meaningfully impacted your thinking?
I’d say The Alchemist has helped me with my mindset toward change in business. It’s ok to be open to new things, to change, to shift, and try something else if the current process isn’t working. Even if you do end up back where and with what you started with, at least you’ll have a better understanding of your purpose, your why. Sometimes it takes that trial and error process before yous trike gold but it doesn’t mean your efforts are in vain. The boy on his journey in The Alchemist taught me this.
How about pivoting – can you share the story of a time you’ve had to pivot?
YES, actually right now. I’ve decided to change my name from Luv’s Remedy Shop to Lune Herbals Magic and Medicine
As a Cancer moon, I rely heavily on my intuition and have used it as a guide throughout my spiritual journey. I love the moon and how it affects us with its phases, it’s connection to emotional/physical healing, and how it pushes us to go with the flow of its tide. It’s also been found to be beneficial in medicine making, harvesting herbals, and more. A new start is what I’ve needed so I open to this with a change.
