Alright – so today we’ve got the honor of introducing you to Yatta Fahnbulleh. We think you’ll enjoy our conversation, we’ve shared it below.
Alright, Yatta thanks for taking the time to share your stories and insights with us today. It’s always helpful to hear about times when someone’s had to take a risk – how did they think through the decision, why did they take the risk, and what ended up happening. We’d love to hear about a risk you’ve taken.
The biggest risk I ever took was starting my business with minimal funding. When I started working on Pore.celin I was working in an entry level position at my past employer. The total cost to start my skincare line amounted to my entire paycheck which caused me to continuously postpone my start date. The pandemic really pushed me to start my business because in the midst of all the madness I quickly realized we have one life to live, so why not live in your purpose.
As always, we appreciate you sharing your insights and we’ve got a few more questions for you, but before we get to all of that can you take a minute to introduce yourself and give our readers some of your back background and context?
My name is Yatta Fahnbulleh, the CEO of Pore.celin.
Founded in 2020, PORE.CELIN is a Clean Korean beauty brand for diverse skin. Our mission is to promote individualism and inclusion through beauty. We achieve this by adopting a “customer first” culture, connecting with our community and effective product development. PORE.CELIN wants to solve the lack of representation for people of color in the world of k-beauty by introducing products that aid with diverse skin concerns
Mirror skin is an extension of “Glass skin” a- term coined from the K-beauty world (Korean Beauty). Glass skin is a term for exceptionally smooth, even- toned and lustrous skin that’s so flawless it has the appearance of glass. Similarly, mirror skin is a technique that requires the layering of hydrating serums, toners, creams, and oils and promises hydrated, even tone, reflective and glowing skin. The goal is to achieve intense translucence inside and out. PORE.CELIN’S product line offers products that aid in evening skin tone, reducing acne & hyperpigmentation.
Putting training and knowledge aside, what else do you think really matters in terms of succeeding in your field?
What has helped me most with my skincare business is studying the market and competitors. You have to know what’s out there and what your competition is doing. Also listening to your audiences needs. Their opinion matters the most because they’re the buyer.
If you could go back in time, do you think you would have chosen a different profession or specialty?
I would definitely choose skincare because it’s a major part of my life and identity. From a young age people always came to me for skin advice and new product reviews. I honestly wish I took it seriously earlier because it’s something I’m truly passionate about. The world of skincare is constantly evolving and it definitely keeps me on my toes.
