Alright – so today we’ve got the honor of introducing you to Destiny Lanay. We think you’ll enjoy our conversation, we’ve shared it below.
Destiny, looking forward to hearing all of your stories today. Who is your hero and why? What lessons have you learned from them and how have they influenced your journey?
I know it’s really kinda cliche but my hero is my mother. If I could keep it short and explain why as well as the lessons I have learned from her, I would say it was her drive. My biological dad died when I was 8 so my mom had to literally care for her 4 kids of which my oldest sister is my cousin who moved in with us in elementary. She went back to school and got her LVN license while having 4 elementary aged children. She never let us see her sweat and she never complained (at least we didn’t see or hear it lol). The lesson I learned from her is no matter the storm, you weather it with a smile and grace.
As always, we appreciate you sharing your insights and we’ve got a few more questions for you, but before we get to all of that can you take a minute to introduce yourself and give our readers some of your background and context?
I am Destiny Lanay. Most refer to me as the serial entrepreneur, literally. I am coowner of GirlBoss Suites Houston. I run a trucking company. I have my business management business where I either manage seasoned businesses, help start new businesses, help businesses get organized, or whatever they need help with to help their businesses become successful. I teach grant writing classes and how to obtain government funding and contracts. If you have a business related question, I’m literally the Shero for it. I also do personal credit and help build business credit. I have a planner being sold on Amazon called The Freedom Planner. It helps individuals find their freedom regardless if it is relational Freedom, financial freedom, or even self related Freedom that they need. All while being in school getting my PhD in Advanced Human Behavior.. So that is why they call me the serial entrepreneur.
Have you ever had to pivot?
Last year, I went through a divorce, lost my cousin who was like my brother, and a depression all while still having to go to school, work, run my businesses, and be a normal sister, daughter, friend, step mom, and business owner. I had to literally pull myself out and figure out if that was something I wanted to do with my life forever. That is how I created the Freedom Planner because it was literally the tools that I used to get me through my journey. It was the scriptures, the journaling, writing everything down, the coloring, and everything you find in my planner.
Can you tell us the story behind how you met your business partner?
I met my sister, my friend as I was going through it with my exhusband. I had a photoshoot scheduled that I did not want to do so I literally PUSHED myself to go. Cried my way there and even messed up my makeup. Tiara had a photoshoot scheduled right before I did and they were running behind. The photographer was trying to introduce us and I was just not in the mood to meet. She was really nice and showed me the space but I wasn’t in the head space. Fast forward, we met again at a business event that she was putting together and we have been friends since.
