We were lucky to catch up with Chelz Danielle recently and have shared our conversation below.
Chelz, thanks for joining us, excited to have you contributing your stories and insights. Did you always know you wanted to pursue a creative or artistic career? When did you first know?
I started producing in high school for fun, but I never knew I wanted to pursue music fully until I got to college and started writing my own songs. I quickly learned that songwriting is the perfect outlet for me to talk about my experiences and feelings while navigating various friendships and relationships, and I have a lot of fun doing it as well.

Awesome – so before we get into the rest of our questions, can you briefly introduce yourself to our readers.
According to my mom, I started playing melodies from the radio on the keyboard since I was around 4, and that is when my parents decided to get me my first keyboard. I have been doing song covers since middle school, but it was not until age 19 that I started posting them to social media and building up my own little community online through music. In addition to that, I was also releasing self-produced/written songs and collaborations onto streaming platforms such as Spotify/Apple Music/Etc. I am most proud of myself for being able to make such valuable friendships and connections through music on Instagram, Twitter, and TikTok. When I was just starting in 2019, I would have never imagined that some of my favorite artists would notice my work.
Learning and unlearning are both critical parts of growth – can you share a story of a time when you had to unlearn a lesson?
When I started being more active on social media, one of the things I would do is compare my path to others, because I felt like I was behind. Not only is that counterproductive, but it is also untrue. There is no schedule when it comes to doing what you love to do, and everybody’s experiences are different. As long as you stay true to yourself, stay authentic to your work, and support other musicians, those flowers will come back to you tenfold.

In your view, what can society to do to best support artists, creatives and a thriving creative ecosystem?
I think it is beneficial for fans to to support upcoming musicians by attending their live shows, and buying their merchandise. Additionally, streaming their music and adding it onto Spotify playlists makes a huge difference. In terms of supporting artists on social media: liking, commenting, saving, and sharing posts helps to boost them in the algorithm! A way that musicians can support other musicians is to be as inclusive as possible. Even if somebody doesn’t tap into the same genre as you, space can still be made to support them, because we are all striving toward a similar goal after all.
