We caught up with the brilliant and insightful Joanne Patterson a few weeks ago and have shared our conversation below.

Hi Joanne , thanks for joining us today. Let’s start with a fun one – what’s something you believe that most people in your industry (or in general) disagree with?

Slowly the writing industry. Is gaining respect for self published authors. Traditional publishing has always been the preferred method of publishing. There are many different ways to publish now including a combination of the two.

As always, we appreciate you sharing your insights and we’ve got a few more questions for you, but before we get to all of that can you take a minute to introduce yourself and give our readers some of your back background and context?

Hello, I am a retired lady after having a career in the airline industry. I always have enjoyed reading and now that I have the time, I thought I’d give writing a try. A dear friend is a book editor and she helped me resurrect a 40 year old double spaced manuscript I had hidden in a closet. We somehow rewrote all of it and my first novel, based on a true story (mine) was born.,

I am proud of the fact that I was in my seventies when the first book was published. There are two more novels now making a series of three.

My stories are sweet romance that anyone can read and have been called inspirational as well as fun to read with interesting plots of love and suspense.

The series is called the Rebecca Steele Series and is available on Amazon.

We’d love to hear a story of resilience from your journey.

This journey at this time of my life was new and exciting but very challenging. I had to learn from scratch how to write fiction and also how to market the books as I was also the publisher.

Any resources you can share with us that might be helpful to other creatives?

I learned from trial and error with help online how to write these books. The reviews and comments are excellent on all three so I must have done something right.
